JetSTAR to YPPH

Read in the West the other day that J* will be starting YMAV-YPPH flights from the 28th March. Further down the report went to say that J* would look to expand OS from PH later in the year? Anyone know anything??

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

If there is one destination that Jet* 'should' fly to internationally it's DPS ex PER. DPS is the destination of choice for Perth families. It's closer and heaps cheaper than getting to the east coast. They love it up there.

After the last bombing what did the brains trust at QF do? stopped the PER-DPS AO flights and retained the SYD-DPS, what great anal -ysts what great thinkers. Who does their market research?. So the punters just gave all their money to Garuda and Air Paridise (who had the premium economy seats) yes there were heaps of people from WA in Bali over Christmas, New Year and indeed the whole school holiday period.

On my last visit to Bali and speaking to Oz tourists, it was incredible the number of travellers who stated that they would never travel AO, WHY?
* No business class - was the main reason.
So just like Hamiliton Island, QF management do not realise that there are many travellers who do want to pay for business class.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

Ex.

They also cancelled the 2 weekly AO branded MEL DPS services but left the SYD DPS services in operation. Despite the fact that MEL punters used the service more than SYD punters. But as you would know, at Coward Street they think that Sydney is the centre of the known universe. They will probably use PER DPS to help prop up Jet* international. They will need to spoon feed it to help it survive just like they did with the domestic version. Dixon won't allow it to fail no matter what it costs.

By the way Air Paradise fell over a few weeks after the last bombing. I sense the average Oz punter is getting pissed at the the situation in Bali and won't be back in big numbers in the near future.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

So all these extra flights out of YMAV; yet no news about a tower service?

The RFF commenced services when the airport reach a magic number (400,000 pax I believe), is there such a number for the provision of ATC? It must be busier than the majority of class D aerodromes yet no CAGRO or no ATC until you get out of the CTAF (vicinity, sic).

Heard a rumour about class D from 500ft to the base of Class C at YMAV (services provided by ML APP) in lieu of tower staff.

Anyone with their ear to the ground?

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

The AO PER-DPS flights lately have been lucky to have 70 pax on them. GA flights have also been cut back from 2 737-400's a day to one and even this is only sometimes half full. This is all from flights last week and even over the Christmas period it was not much better.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

JQ ex-Perth to anywhere like DPS or SIN means crew base in PER.

Anyone know when?

Lot of disgruntled NJS 717 lads and lasses that enjoyed their time at JQ would jump at it........

Re: tower staffing at AV

Can't comment about future staffing at AV on a more permanent basis (that's can't, not won't), but i will say the following about the present staffing arrangements: who in their right mind would want to?

1. The tower itself is dirty, with rodent and bird droppings around the place.
2. There are no recency or currency requirements to keep one familiar with what you're supposed to be doing.
3. Not so much as a TSAD (radar like display) to assist.
4. After the new EBA, there is no travel allowance and no longer payment for time before and after the shift. It's a long drive to AV!

As a general background for those unfamiliar - AV twr is opened on occasion by tower staff from ML and E: usually when a company wants to conduct training or whatever flights and wants to pay for the tower service.
PS I'm not one of those people.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

Overflew it the other day and had conversations with Melb Radar regardinh incoming or departing Jetstar. I learned that "I'm 2500 ft over Point Lillias tracking for Barwon heads" means nothing to them. They needed a range and bearing, so now I know.
Just a question for the J* people, are all your approaches straight in? If so it would seem that the safest track for a little Cessna is straight overhead when tracking N/S.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

I do believe that like most of the other "user pays" rubbish we hear that there is a figure of movements that will open a tower. Next one being looked at is Broome.

But like AlJ said - who'd want to work at AV? Give me Broome anyday!

On another note-the reaction to the Bali deal by QF is pretty typical of the east coastcentric approach that QF has had towards us since the days of VH-TBJ and its mates (stares whistfully at the sky looking for the kero trail).

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

Sunfish.. Jetstar go straight in only if the wind favours it. Otherwise its downwind for 36.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

Sunny - further to fromwayback - over the top at 2500' is safest when travelling down the coast - or to/from the south. Even if J* are using 36 they will be on their downwind leg at 1500' when you pass overhead. Departures from 18 are then your concern as they'll be climbing through your level.

They will normally be on descent from the north (well a sector probably 30deg either side of north) so I always stay south of the freeway so as to stay out of their way.

Re: JetSTAR to YPPH

back to the original post is it true JQ have shown an interest in the A318, and would use it to replace intra-state 717 services in the west?

Topend 3, totally unfounded rumour and impossible in the near future..........but in 2 years time when the 71 leases start to expire, who knows

Boeingwest, think you hit the nail on the head, although apparently there are still some that like going to work, sitting around for hours waiting for A/C to be fixed by really off engineers who are short staffed with no parts

Ignore Cunninglinguist's post.
He is a disgruntled former employee who still seems to have a chip on his shoulder and can't let go of National Jet. He is always keen to bag NJS. Get over it mate.

I still enjoy going to work,
Most of the military management types in Adelaide should be looking for new jobs, B4 they are forced to, having said that Jet* was no better while I was there.
