Virgin Blue denies shifting jobs offshore

From the ABC news:

Virgin Blue denies plan to shift jobs offshore
8:20 AM August 27

Virgin Blue has denied rumours it is moving its Brisbane call centre to the Philippines, putting 170 Queensland jobs in jeopardy.

The Australian Services Union (ASU) says it is concerned by the rumours and has called for Premier Peter Beattie to intervene.

But Virgin Blue chief commercial officer Stefan Pichler says the company has "absolutely no plans" to close the Brisbane call centre and is very happy with its staff.

"I heard about this rumour and this rumour's absolutely incorrect," Mr Pichler said.

"We have a call centre here in Brisbane at Barry Parade with 170 full-time employees and they provide a great service to our customers.

"This call centre is working in a very efficient way. We have no plans to close it or transport any jobs or whatever."

Mr Pichler says Virgin Blue has simply changed service providers for the overflow of calls that the Brisbane call centre cannot handle.

He says those staff are not employed by Virgin Blue and the 170 Brisbane call-centre staff will not be affected.

"We have, as we do with all the suppliers, renegotiated our supplier contract," he said.

"We are going to shift from this supplier which is a company called Stellar based in Melbourne to another supplier which is called Citel and which operates a call centre in the Philippines.

"Maybe that's where this rumour comes from but [it] is nothing to do with Virgin Blue."
