Jetstar B717 Evacuation Hobart
Scroobed,
You do have the ability to put yourself and the rest of us out of our misery and delete the entire thread now that it has desecnded into vitriol: just edit your original post and tick the Delete Topic tick box. Boom! At least I think that'll work!

I wonder what the outcome might have been had there been no engineer on the tarmac to alert the crew to the situation?
Dare say that this incident will not factor into the bean counters reckoning when they next look for an area to cut costs. LAME-less tarmac's are unfortunately still on the wish list of airline management.
But that's probably for another thread. Just glad that nobody was seriously injured and that there was no smoking hole left in the ground.

CC,
It would be most unusual for an RPT service not to be despatched by no one. It depends on the despathcer's training and how they can annunciate what's actually happening down the back. I'm not sure that a LAME is the most affordable-safety/cost-effective answer. There are bucket-loads of RPT jet airports around Oz that have never ever seen a LAME, let alone had them despatch aircraft.
Perhaps the solution is to put a decent engine on the friggin thing!

Capt Blogs,
careful what you wish for with "affordable safety". You and every other pilot flying in this country will be the ones to feel the full effects of such a bean counter mantra.
If I'm a punter looking out my window on push-back, I like to think that the person attached to the headset has an exellent knowledge of what is going on. Not somebody who has just completed a week long dispatchers course!
I'm certainly not going to claim that aircraft are going to start falling out of the sky the moment L.A.M.E.'s are removed from all Australian tarmacs. However, despite the best intentions and efforts of everybody who is left involved in the turnaround of aircraft, things will be missed. Perhaps only a few minor things. Accidents are never caused by a single thing going wrong or being missed but, a combination of things. If I'm a member of the travelling public, looking at the aircraft that I'm about to board through a gate lounge window, I'm hoping that the comany involved is not relying on "affordable safety". For if I were to become aware that such a thing were occuring, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to change to a company that wasn't.
As the saying goes,"Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity, or neglect."

You think it's funny being mentally handicapped? Is that it? If so you may just be as pathetic as the people who choose to make fun of the wheelchair-bound, mentally challenged on TV. But that is your problem.

Well yes I could delete it Capn Bloggs, but since you are the major contributor to this thread, it would be your loss!!!
Anyway, Like 'em Lickem whatever, I had a hard time deciphering your ramblings and the best I could come up with is you're another poorly-educated pilot and thus your outrage at anyone who picks on spelling.
I can't help it, I just see this as something that lowers the standard of professionalism in this industry - a guy can fly an aircraft but can't string a sentence together correctly.
Woghi warrior obviously agreed and is hanging his head in shame because he certainly hasn't been back to stand up for himself. SO why are YOU defending him?

Geez mate chill out. The title of this thread was demeaning to the crew. Period. You said so yourself. The rest is a bit light hearted banter. Delete the thread: I couldn't care less!
I mean, Capt Bloggs, is it water from the airconditioning pack? Potable water leak? Cargo bilge? Fuel from a fuel shroud drain? Fuel tank Vent? Engine leak? Or whatever you call them these days.
P.S. do modern engines have a sniffle valve?

Sunfish,
My nose does!
Seriously, I know where you're coming from, but I'm comfortable with the current arrangements "in the regions". Stuff dripping from the engines (we don't operate comets anymore) can be easily isolated from stuff dripping from the fuz. If there is something I and my FO can't work out, I get on the blower to my maintenance people and ask.
PS: Nice thread name!
