Thumbs down Why would you want to work at Jetstar..NOT

Anyone interested in a cabin crew job at Jetstar would earn more money, be treated better and work in a cleaner more positive enviroment if they stocked groceries on a supermarket shelf. I started in the Impulse days and we thought that was budget.
Our aircraft are filthy, toilets are disgusting[aircraft are only cleaned at night, and not so well then either].
It is no fun any more, moral is at an all time low and 90of crew are looking eslewhere for work, its really an awful place to spend the day.
Customer service....what customer service, we treat people like cattle. Our boarding procedure put passengers in different sectioned off areas, then we let them out as each as there colour is called...Treat people like animals and they will behave like animals.
We keep hoping it will get better but i personally dont think it will.Anyone know of any jobs at Woolles!!

Excellent CRM, Captain Adama!!
In case you have yet to find out, QUALITY of Life is not only about $$$'s.

As Grove points out, why should an employee be expected to produce optimum results, when the conditions s/he's working in are aviation sweatshop stuff?

I venture to guess, Grove, that the REASON the JetStar toilets are filthy, staff morale low, and aircraft interiors disgusting, is because most of the OTHER employees are of the same mindset as you!

A friend's son finished with Woolies recently. He was one of the five product line managers at the store. Expected to work seven days a week and be on call when he could snatch a few hours at home.

If he could improve the profitability of his area his competitiveness to become a store manager improved. If it fell below set forecasts, his family jewels were on the line. Loved the job, worked extremely hard, added to Woolworth's profit margin, and did this for well under $40,000 a year.

I might mention to him that there are few Jet* jobs coming up soon.

I am cabin crew with Jetstar and all I can say is, if you don't like it LEAVE!!!
I have never, ever cleaned up vomit, urine or emtied bins. That is not in the EBA so why are you doing it????
The closest I've come is sprinkling the fluid absorber onto vomit. Big deal. In a supermarket you would be made to clean it up. Trust me. Been there, done that.

Grove

So you don't like :

Fancy cleaning up vomit, urine, dirty nappies in seat pockets, emptying bins with used sanitry pads, working Christmas day and every other public holiday
I always thought this was part of the job. If you don't like it, then why the did you apply for the job ?

By the way, the above duties are also part of a pilots job in most GA jobs. I been there, done that, and so have many others.

You should try cleaning up seat pockets when people (adults) urinate and defecate straight into them without the use of nappies or sanitary products.

Supermarkets have designated cleaners.."Cleaner with a mop and bucket to Aisle 6."
I'll bet the office of the G.M. of Jet* gets cleaned by a dedicated cleaner, and not by his secretary!!

Devil ...........FO/Toilet cleaner

Aviation is such a close knit and supportive bunch of people, as this thread shows.

After the cabin crew depart the pilots will be the next in line to do the chores, Jetstar and Virgin pilots better get their toilet cleaning gear out. The way conditions and wages are going back, the lower cost airline's pilots will be paying for toilet cleaning endorsments as well as 20 hours in a 737 stimulator.

Well John C. That may be the case in G.A. but not what you would expect food seving front line staff to do in a world wide respected company who's profit this year is expected to be more than the $900m that they made this year. Also I dont remember it ever being told to me at any stage of the interview process that these duties would be expected of me.It most certainly is not in the job description given to me by Jetstar.

Grove.

Simple solution to your problem.

Speak to the good people at Oc. health and safety.

If you are doing what you are saying your doing without the appropriate time or safety equip. to do it, then i'm sure they will have something to say to your boss about it.

Just as a matter of interest Grove, what do you see your duties and responsibilities as being?

I have been told [ 2nd hand ] that a crew member has reported certain events and pratices to Work Cover and that they have been making inspections on some of our aircraft..Hopefully something good will come of this.

I might add that at Jetstar we really do have the very best of pilots. They really do assist the F/A\'s with some of the more unplesant duties. HORRAY FOR JETSTAR PILOTS..
Jetstar may suck but we really do have the most amazing bunch of people working there. You couldnt find better.

Seriously Kaptin M, Would a cabin crew member on a flight you were crewing just step over a pile of vomit in the aisle.
(Maybe they could call the designated cleaner !)
As for supermarkets, the cleanup is generally done by either the most junior staff member or whoever the manager happens to point the finger at.
As for you Grove you are obviously not Jetstar cabin crew at all.
Any crew member knows how much money they make.
A first year cabin crew member is on $38774.43 and gets an overtime hourly rate on top of that of $23.08.Plus the extra money you get on live days and the myriad of other little beauties like 10 days off each month, no more than a 9.5 hour day to be rostered, maximum of 140 hours duty per month (thats less than a 35 hour week), staff travel with Qantas etc.
All the above for someone who requires no experience and no real skills apart from a few weeks paid training. If you actually are cabin crew than f@rk off and try to find a job offering all of the above in the real world, especially for someone who can't spell.
As you say, it's not that easy to up and leave especially if you are looking for the same terms and conditions or better with another employer.
As for the filthy aircraft, you are correct!

Sadly Big Jan I really am a Jetstar F/A. DIDNT CHOOSE TO BE HOWEVER and thats why I am out there looking for a new career.I will take on board your words of wisdom and try to find a position that doesnt require too much spelling.
Enjoy the cleaning, the constant 4 sector days, the caos at the boarding gate, the great crew food, eating over and resting around open garbage bags, working all public holidays,no bid system, really nice t-shirt to wear and the $38,000 .You forgot to mention approx $20per week comission on in flight sales.I am saving mine
