more ex BA 763s for Qantas?
Anyone know whether this (from YSSY board post) is true?

Quoting from the September edition of "World Airline Fleets News" a pretty reputable UK publication, which is usually mostly spot-on.
"According to unconfirmed reports received at press time, Qantas is to acquire the entire fleet of Boeing 767-300ERs currently in operation with British Airways, with the first due to be handed over in October".

Given that we aren't training any 767 crews at the moment and we aren't exactly flush for crew, I'd be really surprised if we were to get another 767 within six weeks or so.
It'd be nice though! I'd have a hope of getting that 744 F/O slot now!

I doubt it very much.....it took QF ages to get the previous BA 767s to operate reliably.
Besides where would they use them considering that there will be an excess of 767s as the A330s becomes more and more international.

Very true everyone, but the fact remains that if the deal is sweet enough and a "give away" so to speak, then bet your left nad QF will take up the offer.
It gives them flexibility to increase both domestic and international capacity as well as opening certain newer routes around the Asia-Pacific region.
The low cost option of aircraft worked a treat when Geoff Dixon ordered B737-800's amd B747-400ER's just after 9/11 when every other airline were slashing services and cancelling their orders.
Same with the A330/A380 deal as well as the A320's Jetstar use.
In the words of GD, "they gave us an offer we couldnt refuse".
If the deal is that good then expect a handful more B767's which will be to everyones advantage.

It's probably common knowledge to everyone else, but have all the 762's gone yet? Could these 763's be replacing them in the fleet, hence the lack of "movement" at the station?
The B762's have been replaced by the A330's and the ex BA 763's are not suitable for AO because the extra doors reduce the seating capacity however, if AO are expanding the they could take more of the QF B763's which could be replaced in the domestic operation by ex BA aircraft.
Personally, I don't think there is any truth to the rumour as there are already indications that the aviation market in general is softening in the first half of next year.

Buster, I flew EAQ on Friday last week. I think it's due to go in the first week of October. The A330 and extra 738s have been replacing the 'lost' capacity of the 762s. Rumours abound that John Travolta may be interested in upgrading from the 707 to an ex QF 762.
From what I read a while back, AO aren't interested in any more 763s in the short to medium term (mid next year). Of course, that can change in a blink of an eye and stranger things have happened. I reckon we're still a bit short of capacity- especially considering the airline keeps talking about 'expanding' but perhaps they see that growth occurring without any dramas due to the incoming A330s, 738s, A380s, J* A320s, etc.

763 extra door
I was under the impression that the extra doors on the BA 763s were to allow for increased seating capacity( ~280). Didn't BA run them as one class on high density European routes as Tristar replacements ?
Yeah Slice, the extra doors does allow more pax to be carried if you sacrifice seating space but at the seat pitch that AO are using the pax numbers don't exceed the standard ex QF aircraft and the extra doors of the ex BA aircraft just means more floor area is taken up with walkways.
Brittania did some charters to OZ with a rumoured 320 seats on a B763 - geez that would be uncomfortable on such a long flight.

BY's 763: 316 pax in "Premium" config. 324 in Hadj set up (including the crew rest, similar to QF's) and aircraft certified for 344 to run around Europe if required. (Never saw that though!) And all off in 90 secs they reckon.

I guess the "packet sauce" principle applies to this. Squeeze it hard enough & the contents burst forth!
Slightly off thread but anything can happen these days. Expect the unexpected. QF is the trendsetter at present.
Valuair have announced a daily A320 SIN-PER service in competition with SQ and QF. Look for a reaction from Geoff Dixon using AO or Jetstar.
FYI since Air Asia has commenced a Macau-BKK service the Air Macau traffic over the route has dropped 50% and this is after the fare was slashed 60% !!!.
No wonder anyone in a decent job is worried about future salary and conditions being eroded by the new low cost carriers.
