Just got an email from Holly saying that as soon as the start date for the NZ-based tower course is finalised, I’ll be receiving a formal offer letter. Anyone else in the same boat?

I passed the medical back in November 2024 - have been on hold for months waiting for a course start date. Looks like ASA is finally organising staff to teach tower control, although maybe me already living in NZ affected things slightly. Hopefully I’ll see some of you guys in Christchurch in May :)

Hey NRSOHN - would you might if I asked a couple questions on DM. The SHL testing seems to be wasting time.

Any tips for the interrupt test?

  • Get a good nights sleep before hand.
  • Make the most of the practice you will be given before the real test.
  • Split your attention equally, you need good scores in both the radar and the problem solving.
  • Always remember the rules you are given for guiding the planes - A LOT of the planes request to break them.
  • Have fun - a lot of people quite enjoy the interrupt test.

Applied on 23rd feb

Hi all,

I have applied foe the ATC trainee position on 23/02/2025 - havent heard back. Anyone else in the same boat? How long does it take foe them to respond back?

fernandobale 26th March 2025 07:54

Honestly, expect a month of wait from your initial application to receive the email saying youve passed the application stage, expect another week or two to receive stage 1 tests. Maybe a week to get the results for stage 1 and get invited to the interrupt, wait for another 2 weeks for an interrupt test session, then youre off to the assessment centre, which some of us wait months for, i think ive been waiting almost a month for it already lol

fernandobale 26th March 2025 08:02

my apologies just noticed its already been a month since you applied, i waited a month and 2 days for the initial email, so honestly you should be expecting it this week or the next

Hi everyone, I saw in a media release that Airservices now has an $8,000 ‘sign-on bonus’. Is this paid to fresh ab initios or are you required to complete training first?

I don't believe there is a sign-on bonus for new recruitment, unless I am mistaken. As part of the new enterprise agreement which came into force last year, current ATCs were paid a one off "bonus" of $8,000. These bonuses are often included in enterprise agreement negotiations as an incentive to vote in support of the new agreement but only apply to employees at the time it was signed.
