I am not to sure about others, I would have thought I was in the 'others' catagory :), I received an email on the 6th jan to accept stage 1 testing, which for me will be 20th of Jan, I assumed this was for everyone but maybe not? The first email I received mentioned the following stages of testing
  • ATC Skills Simulation (90 minutes)
  • ATC Cognitive Suite (40 minutes)
  • Behavioural Traits Questionnaire (20 minutes)
Is this the same info you received and were just a week ahead of me?

Practice for the stage 1 tests

Hey do you have any idea on how to prepare for the stage 1 tests? I'am a bit lost they say look at the SHL website but there so many tests and I don't know if they are similar to the actual tests

zyzy 14th January 2025 21:48

Mine is on the same day how do you prepare for this tho?

I would say he’s in the same intake as us (I also got the invitation on the 6th). On the 13th I received my links to the tests in 3 different emails, having until the 20th to complete them. I just sat down and finished them all now, took me roughly 2 hours to complete everything. Pretty confident I did my best - it’s all on them now! The second part of the radar simulation was not very fun for me personally haha

Hi All,

Just kicked of the stage 1 test with detail accuracy and coded reasoning.. not sure how to feel. Didn't get through all the questions in either - I'm hoping this is normal otherwise I'm a fair way off the mark? :ugh:

Was prioritising accuracy, however was obviously trying to work as quick as possible - do others just try and rip through the questions?

So I read this a day before my tests and can confirm now that I didn’t either. I did quite well in both areas as I did also focus primarily on accuracy, not sure how much I missed out on the detail accuracy but for coded reasoning I got 40/50 completed with pretty high confidence in all my answers. Definitely could’ve squeezed out a few more but it is what it is I thought I was doing well for time during the test.
All the best! Goodluck with the rest

Hey boss I also just completed the tests on the 20th and had a pretty similar experience especially the coded reasoning (also got to 40/50) and pt2 of the radar test. absolute best of luck though!!! I guess we all let each other know when we hear back?

Best of luck to you my man. I've never been so nervous to hear back form a job, I want this bad haha. Could be another week I'm thinking, as they'd have to go through everyone's results. Let's hope for the best! I'll keep you posted.

Thatsrightbru 24th January 2025 15:37

DKD Absolutely boss I feel the same way. if we both get through to the next stage we can put our heads together and figure out how to do our best! and hopefully I will see you there!

livinthedreamatc 30th January 2025 21:34

Dissappointedly didn't make it. But makes me want it more. Hoping the rest of you had better luck!

Just wondering if anyone knows if they ever give exceptions to the 12month re-apply period?

Also would anyone who made it through, have any tips (via dm).. I think radar was toughest for me, with the remebering relationships part where you had to remember 2 equations. Also interested in the type of answers that others provide in behavioural testing, which inhindsight I could've answered in a manner more tailored towards ATC attitude.

Pyschometric stage one testing

Hi all - sorry new to the forum and the atc application - so niy too sure if i can ask this - but is there any guidance on how to prepare for the new domain testing? Is there anything online that is similar (like coded reasoning, spatial openong/closing shapes, whats next in thr pattetn type questions)?

How similar are the practice tests ASA give you in diffculty anf type of questions?

Hey all!
I am starting my ATC journey. Through first round and have booked an Interrupt test for next week. Quite nervous/excited. 2% is a lot less than I was expecting!

Hey! Would love to know the type of questions you got in the first round and if there is any way to prepare for it?

hard to describe, each test has a practice test that you can do over and over which I recommend.
also, kind of a no-brainer but -
READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS!

The radar was the worst. You have to flag moving dots while answering math problems that disappear.

Brisbane AC

Got an email today to book in for an Assessment Centre for mid March in Brisbane. Looking forward to it but wish it was sooner, it's going to be an excited but anxious wait for it! The assessment centre is a half day (~4 hrs), and I had the choice of three time slots. Anyone else on here who will be attending this round?

departuresgday 6th February 2025 20:59

Congrats to those who made it into the Assessment Centre. I completed the interrupt test this week and didn't make the cut. If you zoom out far enough, you could see your score. I got close to 90% on one of the components, but only scored around 70% on the other components.
Bit of a bummer, but they did say that they expect a good score in all components. I guess the 70% score wasn't quite good enough. I'll try again in 12 months.
Best of luck to everyone else!

The whole point of the behavioral testing is to see if you're a good fit for the job. If you adjust your answers to what you think they are looking for, and therefore not what you are actually like as a person, then all you're doing is setting yourself up. Sure, be smart about the answers you give, but be honest with yourself and the panel.

Congrats to those who made it to the assessment centre! I completed the interrupt test this week but was unsuccessful. I saw that one of my scores was close to 90%, but the other ones were closer to 75%. They said you need a good score in all components to pass, so I guess I just missed the mark in one of the components.
They wouldn't provide any feedback, and asked me to wait another 12 months before reapplying.

kevinstopbeingakunt 6th February 2025 22:02

I found the interrupt test easier than the radar test of round 1. It was still tricky splitting your brain to see, hear, comprehend and compute at the same time, but the math questions were MUCH simpler (some T/F in there too, instead of "What is 387 x 12" wtf how do I do that in 3 seconds in my head?). There were a few others in the zoom with me, and we were all talked through the test. Very simple, 7 minute tutorial and 15 minute test.

I also thought it was easier, definitely less hectic as others have said. I'm disappointed I didn't pass it considering my score.

One trick you can use with multiple choice maths questions is to just look at the last digits. 7x2 is 14, so the answer must end in 4. Often there is only one response where that is the case!
