Anyone got any idea about the screening phone call to determine who will be invited to an AC?

Do you mean some applicants who passed the Interrupt could be potentially rejected and won’t have a chance to be invited to the AC?

Btw I failed the Interrupt. So all the best to all the active applicants.

fernandobale 19th April 2025 07:53

Yea, and I'm pretty sure it's not some but all, all applicants who are waiting for an a/c invite will get this screening call. Whether candidates will get eliminated from this call or kept in the pool for future a/c invites I'm not sure.

As far as I know most people who passed the Interrupt get notified within 1/2 days

fernandobale 19th April 2025 09:18

Yea i got told i passed interrupt same day, that was March 5th and was also told "At this stage, we do not have a confirmed date for the Assessment Centre so will be placing your application on active hold until we have finalised this." the next time i heard from them was a few days ago when they emailed saying "Further to our previous communication, due to the high volume of applications we have received, we will be contacting everyone who has passed the interrupt test to have a short phone screen call to determine who will be invited to an assessment centre."
Don't think this has ever happened before ahaha just my luck

Nah the same thing happened to me, I had to wait 3 months for my A/C call after passing the interrupt, mind you this was over the xmas period

fernandobale 19th April 2025 09:20

Oh righto? you also had to go through a screening phone call?

ceruleanskies 19th April 2025 10:17

Looking back at this thread, up until a year or so ago there used to be an online video interview stage between the interrupt and AC. Sounds like this screening call is acting similar to that step.

Donovan James 26th April 2025 05:55

It usually involves aptitude tests like numerical, verbal, and logical reasoning, sometimes followed by group exercises or interviews. Best to brush up on practice tests online sites can be really helpful.

kevinstopbeingakunt 15th May 2025 09:14

howdy all, been a while. I'm through to assessment centre (yay!) and am waiting on the date to be finalized. I'm wondering what I can expect on the day, namely: how long does it take? Are the questions similar to round 1/2, or are they entirely different?

Appletart99 26th May 2025 03:32

Hi All - Looks like i'll be starting enroute in Melbourne november. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thelamprun 28th May 2025 05:30

G'day, passed the interrupt test this week. Have a couple questions about the phone call they will setup before the AC. This is my 2nd time applying and last time this stage was a recorded video interview. Just checking to see if the phone call will be more of a casual get to know you or will they ask more formal interview style questions.

Hey mate, my AC a couple years ago the first half was a presentation and then a group activity with 3 other people to solve a problem. Then 2nd half was the panel interview where they ask you STAR style questions.

it’s a casual one bud, and just curious what stage did you get to last time, if you’ve done the ac before, any experience or tips you got out of that attempt that you’d be happy to share? Cheers

Tbh it was pretty straightforward, in my session there were 12 applicants and about 16 Airservices reps. There was one person assigned to each applicant to observe for the day. Overall it was very positive and everyone in there wanted you to succeed. Wasn't like they were trying to catch you out or anything. They sent me a pdf brochure of everything that would be on for the day so they try and prepare you as much as possible.

ahop 9th June 2025 08:13

Just did the detail and coded reasoning, really didnt go well at all only got up to question 38 on coded reasoning out of 50. IDK its an odd test if only 2% pass and you just have to be wired for it I get it I just couldnt cut it, but also a lot seems to be a bit luck like how much you prioritise accuracy not knowing how difficult the later questions will be

Ac coming up

Hi all, finally an ac invite for next week.
I’ve noticed there’re no longer half day sessions but full day sessions starting from 9 finishing at 4. That’s a wicked 7 hours, I’ve got no idea what’s going to be happening lol

That's interesting, I think a number of years ago they had full day assessment centers but I think they did the interrupt test in person. Wonder what they will have you do, hopefully you won't be under the pump the entire time haha. May I ask what city and when you did the phone screening. I'm still waiting for my AC invite for Sydney, got the confirmation end of June and they said maybe around end of August they would do an AC up here.

I’m in Melb, I did the phone screen in may. Passed interrupt in march. Idk if they’ll do an ac in Sydney I thought they only do ac in melb and bris?
yea I’ve got no idea what a 7 hour sesh is gonna be like sounds real intense eh

Two years ago I did an AC in Sydney, when I talked to the assesor on the phone recently they mentioned they wanted to do an AC in Sydney approximately end of August. TBH I would be willing to fly to either Melb or Bris if it meant a sooner date ha. The only thing I could think of is if they show you the operational side, like getting a tour of the facility. Sounds like I'm about a month or so behind your group. If I remember correctly they said they had about 50 people they were doing phone calls for after the interrupt so I'm guessing they pool people together by region and once they get enough they will put on an AC for the closest capitol city.

Hey all, got the assessment centre this week in Melbourne. Might be a bit of a dumb question but it's been ages since I've been to an in person interview. The email they sent out states to wear business attire, so does this mean a full on suit or just a nice shirt and pants, tucked in, just like you would going to work. Only asking because id assume if this was a finance/corporate role, a suit would be expected but maybe not for a role like this?

Kai7 16th July 2025 06:23

Attire

Hi mate,

Wear a suit if you have one, everyone wore a suit to my assessment centre and I was the only one in a button up and slacks and nice shoes. In saying that it probably depends on your group, id wear a suit if I was to do it again.

Thanks man, yeah probably a good idea to go overdressed than under.

Ha funny you mention that, at my AC only one person was in a suit and everyone else in a nice button up. But this time around I'll probs wear a button up with a blazer over the top.

For those here who had their AC in Melbourne last week, did you receive an email from ASA saying that you'll get an email from XREF but haven't received anything from XREF themselves yet?

I'm a trainee in the course just before yours. I didn't get an update until 1 month before the start date
They'll give you some resources to study and a chance to meet your course mates by teams

Thelamprun 25th August 2025 02:43

Hey all, for those that did the AC in Melbourne recently wanna shed some light on how it went? Curious to see how a full day will compare to the half day I did about 2 years ago. Still waiting for an AC invite for Syd, did my phone call at the end of May.

Do you remember how long after submitting your references that they got back to you regarding the outcome?

Xref will give you a confirmation email once your references have given the reference. Looks like i got a call two days after that

If it's been a while it would be worth calling to see what's happening but i wouldn't worry you're already through

Also curious about this. I did my AC about a month ago and got the Xref request 7 days later. It's been just under 3 weeks since my references were completed so now I'm just anxiously waiting for an update ;)

Yeah sounds like we had ours in the same week between 16th to 18th July in Melbourne? Or was yours in another state? Good to know that others are on the same boat hahaha

hey man, i wont reveal too much but essentially you've got 4 different assessment throughout the day, ranging between the interview itself and some ATC style tests. They're all pretty fun and although its a full day, you've got a lot of time between the assessment to chill and prepare for the next one, so doesn't feel too tiring.

Appletart99 1st September 2025 00:13

Anyone looking for a room mate for the Melbourne course that starts 10 November?

Certainly is relieving to know I’m not the only one waiting haha

Mine was actually in Brisbane (31/07 and 01/08). They mentioned that the Melbourne cohort from two weeks earlier was the first to go through the new AC schedule, so that must’ve been your group.

Hoping we both get updates soon :)

How long after completing the online testing did you find out how you did? I can see the Airservices website has my application listed as Round 1 outcome and to refer to an email but I don’t have an email saying anything.

I’m guessing I didn’t get through as it feels like I really didn’t do well in the testing anyway

Did you do the two tests for round 1? Did the email go to spam or anything?

I did do the two tests on September 1st and the email gave me the link that was going to expire that day.

Ah well if I don’t get it. Cannot be worse than the last time I applied and failed 😬. Was an awful week then.

Memet1c 18th September 2025 03:39

Hey all,

I applied back in May, and it took them a month before they sent me the links to the online tests. I passed all of the tests over the course of a month, and received a congratulatory email in early July. However, I have not heard anything from them since. Is this normal?

I have checked my emails including the spam folder, and I don't see anything more recent than the congratulatory email from passing the 1st stage assessments from early July.
