Just out of interest, are the medicals done anywhere specific or at the recruitment centres? I know they're slightly more onerous than a CAA/JAR Class 1, but if you already hold a Class 1 that does it help?

Also, does anyone know if it's a specific doctor or group of doctors? (I have a feeling my current AME does work for NATS).

Glamdring 8th February 2009 11:31

NATS Medicals are all done at Swanwick.

sportzbar 8th February 2009 12:16

Hey
I too got selection on Friday morning in Manchester

ATCNoob 8th February 2009 12:30

Well done paperclip! So you think we are likely to be put on the July/August course? My interviewer said that there were only a few spots available and that it would most likely be October/November for me.

CJayne 8th February 2009 14:17

I sooooo hope I'm going to b e joining you guys this year but considering I'm not even past stage 2 yet...think I may be jumping the gun!

Got my stage 2 coming up very soon...revising as much as I can when I can, thinking of different questions that will be asked at stage 2 (I went through it last year so roughly know what to expect) however I am still having trouble learning the difference between aircraft....aaaggghhh!!!!!

Well, if I'm the right material, I'll get through...!

Congrats to everyone who is through stage 3...Bournemouth is a lovely place to live!

ar_ni 8th February 2009 16:19

Arrows, I'd say definitely ring up- basically everyone who had passed NATS medicals a couple of weeks ago got emails about the april/may courses. You're stuck in some NATS black hole

windneckin 8th February 2009 17:51

I might be wrong, but I think that the position in the queue for a course start date depends mostly on when you pass stage 3 rather than on when you pass the medical. Quite a number of people in the April/May courses had their stage 3 around last October.

However, I suppose there are situations where people, depending on personal circumstances and commitments, can potentially "jump the queue" if there are places available in an earlier course.

Arrows2100 8th February 2009 18:15

Windneckin,

I am not sure if you had previously posted that info about the start dates, but I have definitely read it on these forums a couple of times before.

I would love to get on the early course, gets it over with quicker :ok:

However, Thomas Cook still want me back for this summer season to fly all over the world for them. Who am I to say no to that for a few more final months. It would give me the chance to say "Thanks!" to all the pilots who helped me out too :)

Bournemouth may be but Boscombe, where most of the trainees end up staying, is a total craphole :}

jack.raven 8th February 2009 20:56

As there seems to be a lot of talk about it.... I asked after my stage 3 results (Thursday) and was told on Friday that they "still have spaces in the April course."

That was on Friday - I couldn't do April which is why I assumed would be Julyish

Just to clear up general start date guessing.

Dave Z 8th February 2009 21:59

Hi everyone. Just discovered this site yesterday, but has been very helpful so far. I just took and passed my stage 2 last Wednesday (Feb 4th). I got given a choice of either 12th or 20th Feb for my stage 3. Can't get the 20th off work so it'll have to be the 12th (this Thursday!) at CTC. I'm quite worried that i may not have enough time to prepare as fully as i can and thinking to call HR tomorrow to see if any later dates are available.

One thing i'd really like to do before stage 3 is a tower visit. I work at Heathrow already and have an airside pass (blue pass, internal & external airside, zones 1-2-3-4-5). How easy might it be to arrange a visit to the Heathrow tower? I could literally make my own way to the glass walkway connecting it to T3. I'm sure i wouldn't be able to get one by Thursday, but maybe if i can push my stage 3 back would it be possible?

Thanks for any help. Sorry to go on....

paperclip810 9th February 2009 06:53

Dave Z: they seem to be updating the system all the time with new dates - as far as I know, if you haven't picked a date within 2 weeks of receiving the "congratulations, you're through Stage 2" email, they'll take you off the system. HR never seem too sure when new dates are added though, but I'd wait a week or so and check again. I'd definitely recommend a visit to an aerodrome and an area centre (as many before me have said, the chances of working at Prestwick/Swanwick are high, so it would be wise to see what they do over there).

Jack.raven: I now have no idea what's going on with start dates. At my stage 3 (end of Jan) we were told we'd be lucky to get to start in September/October, but to be prepared for December/January (not good for me)!! I speak to Hr a week later, and I'm told April full but July empty. I don't know.......

Dave Z 9th February 2009 12:32

Thanks paperclip. I called them today and they seemed bewildered that i was booked onto a stage 3 on the 12th Feb at CTC as there isn't one being held on that date! They said it was a system error and said if i went back online i could choose some new dates just added. Now booked on 9th March at CTC. Good job i called and didn't just show up on the 12th :)

They also gave me details to arrange a Swanwick visit, but still want to try to visit the Heathrow tower as well if i can. If anyone knows a contact or number there please let me know. The HR lady said she didn't have any info on who to contact in Heathrow tower.

Jan 23rd Stage 1 result email

Have been asked to comlpete the personality online test, so I guess that means I passed the three test areas on the day.

I know you can fail the personality test, but I am still pleased I made it past the dreaded cubes :)

One step closer to my goal, so hopefully I can ask lots of Stage 2 questions in a bit.

Thanks everyone so far, this thread has been a massive help. Good luck to the others awaiting the magic email.

GhostUK 9th February 2009 14:25

crap I failed s1...

Is the wait really 12 months or 6? Email says 12months, but nats ppl at s1 kept meantioning a 6 month wait...

whitelighter 9th February 2009 14:31

Ah, thats tough man. Fingers crossed you can re-sit it in 6 months rather than 12.

glider12000 9th February 2009 14:36

I was unsuccessful at S1 too. Best of luck for everyone else though.

GhostUK 9th February 2009 14:55

Maybe I should use this as a time wisely... and study the other material during the looong wait of 6/12 months.

Can someone please send me the link to the S2 / S3(if there is any) material?

I pretty much know the S1 book by heart, and could prob start memorising the S2 stuff from now.

If you can either post a link up here or email it to me at
[email protected]

Thanks in advance...

DST Solutions

Hi everyone,

I have picked up all these DST problems from througout this page and was wondering if anyone could give me answers so I could clarify I am doing them correctly (especially the first 2).

1. -An a/c is flying at 540mph at FL320, and starts descending at 800feet per minute. How many miles will it travel before it reaches FL250?
2. -Aircraft 40 nautical miles away, at 30,000 ft descending at 3000ft per minute and travelling at 240 knots.. can it make it?
3. -a/c doing 420 knots/mph, how far will it fly in 20mins...
4. -a/c flies 40 miles in 10 mins, what speed is it doing...
5. -a/c needs to travel 120 miles, is doing 480mph, how long will it take...

6. -If a/c flies at 420kts for 40 mins how far will it travel?
7. -If a/c flies 60 miles in 10 mins how fast is it moving?
8. -If point A and point B are 50 miles apart and a/c is doing 200kts how long will it take?

Cheers

Gogz

whitelighter 9th February 2009 15:19

1/ 78.75miles

2/ Yes - but only just

3/ 140 miles

4/ 240 mph

5/ 15 minutes

6/ 280 miles

7/ 360 mph

8/ 15 minutes

paperclip810 9th February 2009 15:59

Should be noted that Q1 is a bit harder than you would expect in the questions for interviews - they can usually/almost always be worked out in your head - this one is a bit trickier (but the same principle is used in the tests).

ASWFlyer 9th February 2009 16:31

Ghost, i can well relate to how you're feeling. I had the same dreaded e-mail just a few moments ago...

GhostUK 9th February 2009 17:11

HR just confirmed it is a 12 month wait from the date of your S1. :ugh:

Traffic is... 9th February 2009 17:51

To all that sadly don't make it at some stage....
It's a horrible wait, but stick out the time and make the most of it with more prep. Many moons ago I failed the interview stage and was fortunate enough to make it on the second go and am now a happy controller with NATS for a few years now. I also know others that didn't make the tests, but reapplied and they are also now controlling too.
If you really want it, it's worth sticking it out.
Good luck!

PDF 9th February 2009 19:14

Got the call from HR today, passed my stage 3 ! :ok:

Just medical and security to go... Good luck to all others applying at whatever stage you are at.

Thread search

Anyone know how the search function works on here? I am trying to find posts about Stage 2 and whatever I type in the box it comes up with an error message saying my words werent long enough??????

Anyway, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or just shove me in the direction of any useful stage 2 stuff.

Ta

paperclip810 9th February 2009 19:47

whitelighter,

I used Google to get round the search problem - use the search term: nats stage 2 site:www.pprune.org and you should get some useful stuff back.

Nokio's post on p35 is probably one of the best on this thread, so have a look at that but feel free to PM me if you think I might be able to help :)

whitelighter 9th February 2009 19:51

Thanks Bud,

Will have a good look and try the Google route. No idea what might be of help, so far all I know is its a computer test with colliding numbers and an interview???

ATCNoob 10th February 2009 00:15

That is too true! I have just passed stage 3 after my third attempt. I was gutted for months after the first two fails but you just have to pick yourself up. Good luck for next time!

Personality questionnaire

First of all, bad luck to everyone who didn't make it to the next stage and well done to those who did.

I attended my S1 in London on the 23rd and got the email with that awful questionnaire in it yesterday, pretty pleased actually as I believe this is a good sign? I completed it yesterday afternoon, god knows how I came out of it.

I was just wondering if anybody knows how long it may take until I hear anything about the results and stage 2?

Thanks, this thread has been amazingly useful so far!

paperclip810 10th February 2009 10:57

jfriday,

I got an email the day after filling in the online questionnaire to say I'd passed it - you then have to fill in an online application form, and after that, get invited to Stage 2.

Well done!

Area Course 219 (May 5th)

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else on these forums is on Area 219?

If you want to get in touch, PM me for MSN/Mobile etc

Cheers,
Andy

becki_ 10th February 2009 13:38

Anyone else who took S1 in Manchester on Jan 26th heard back yet?

I heard today...I got through :ok: so now got to do the online questionnaire.
Anyone got any tips for that or is it a case of just being honest and seeing how it turns out?

*eta* i have no idea how i got past those cubes! so to all who think they are dreadful...they are, but you do better than you think! :)

JonathanB 10th February 2009 13:52

Thank goodness February is a short month as otherwise waiting for 18th March (S1 in London) would seem an even longer time away! :-(

Hi everyone,

I have been on the !!!!!!!!!!!!!! website and have been trying to take in aircraft pics for my stage 3 coming up. I heard there was a quiz you could do on the website but I can't seem to find it; could you give me any directions as to where it is on the page?
