Thanks for that, hope there isn't an upper age limit as Im in pretty good health. Have applied online and done the online test so will just wait and see. Defo need to brush up on my maths. Previously have worked as cabin crew and Im currently an ADI, so hoping my experience here might help me think the way I should to be an ATCO. :ooh:

Hi, I've just been invited to attend stage 1 tests etc, which going on the information in an earlier reply now won't be until April next year.
I have my reservations about taking this application any further as I'm 35 with 2 kids and a job which earns just above £37K.
Ulitmately I can't see how I could cope with the drop in salary if & when I ever made it to college, esp with a mortgage and a family to support
Is/Was anyone else in a similar position to myself? How have you coped? For me this seems like something that is ideal for someone that is fresh out of college uni not a guy in his mid 30's with a family

Hi all, thanks for this thread, it has provided me with good insight.

I'm heading down for my Initial Stage testing on Tuesday, and I'm getting to grips with this information pack. (again, great information provided in this thread).

I have one question though: "How important is it to know all the stats for all the aircraft included at the rear of the pamphlet?"

I'm struggling with all these numbers much more than any of the abreviations or dates from the rest of the information pack.

Well, I'd say it's very important. From what I've read in this thread, they tend to ask specific questions like that in the ATC Motivation Paper.

Instead of memorizing every detail, try to group the aircraft in different categories, e.g. the ones who are able to fly transatlantic and the ones who aren't. Just make up your own categories in order to memorize as easily as possible.

Thanks, I've made some progress. I know the Boeings and most of the Air Busses by heart. I'm ignoring the seating capacities for now, as there's just too many numbers!

Instead I'm trying to memorise to the closest 20-50 on each aircraft. so I have at least some idea of the number of passengers.

I'm SO SO motivated to be an ATCO, just wish I had a photographic memory!

I know it's a lot of information, but just try as hard as you can to memorise as much as you can. It's possible to know most of it, and keep it in your head for long enough for your needs. You will only need to retain it for long enough ot get you through the first set of tests, so no more than 2 hours.
I thought it was a ridiculous quantity of information, and I certainly didn't know all of it, but I knew most (80-90% I would say), and it was a great comfort going into the tests knowing that I already knew the answers to a significant portion of the questions.
The advice I would give you is to invite someone along with you when you go (e.g. a family member) and practice reciting all of the info for as long as you can stand it the day before, and the morning of the test. That's what I did, and the confidence it gave me was as helpful as the knowledge itself.

On another note, I have my S3 on the 1st December, and I was just wondering if anyone else here will be there on the same day?

Yeah good shout on that I think. I've been overlooking the fact that I know all of the rest of the information. I'm just dodgy on the Props I think. I'll focus more on learning them, and also on being confident about the rest of the info pack!

Hi, so i passed my stage 2, which im delighted about :)
Through reading through this thread i've noticed talk about tower visits, however this was only briefly spoken about at the Stage 2 assessments and through the hr emails i have no information about this. How do i go about booking a visit?

I guess it's different at Prestwick as they were marking ours today whilst we were completing the next, and we should find out in a few days.

The first half (Motivation/Numeracy) was a doddle, not so sure about the cubes though. :{

Hey guys! sat my Stage 1 yesterday! First half was a doddle, and passed it (phew) cubes was a bit "nails" !! Proper brain fry, but pretty fun really. Hope I passed it. I want this so so much! :O

I shall let you know when I've found out if I'm on to Stage 2!

I really need some help. I am about to attend stage 1 on 3rd december 9 am at prestwick.I am an international student doing Msc here in manchester. I already mentioned in my application that I will require a work permit if selected. Even though they had accepted the initial application, I am not sure what they gonna tell me on the day of stage 1:confused: If am not eligible then its a big waste of time and money travelling all the way to prestwick. It would be helpful if u guys have any information abt this.

I got the exact same reply as you when i asked for a time slot in december.But now when I checked the interview schedule link there is still a date available which seems to have appeared after my request.I think the same will be available to you as well.
