Just received the good news from NATS that I'm in pending medical and vetting! Ecstatic is an understatement as I had convinced myself that I'd failed.

They mentioned that there was a course with a partner agency (can't remember the name) for 17 July and one with NATS on 24 July that they were trying to get me on. Due to having to move down from Aberdeen and the fact that I've lived out the country in the last 5 years I don't think this is possible. They have quoted a course date between October and December.

Hopefully the medical goes without a hitch now. Have you had yours yet and been given a start date?

Congrats, pleased for you!

Yes I got an email about that - I still haven't got a confirmed start date, still waiting for a date from them for my medical so I don't know if they're waiting for my certificate before they give me a definite date. Would like to know sooner or later if it will be July though, need to get accommodation etc. sorted and not long to go! Not too bothered if it ends up being on the next course, I just want to know either way. Seems like they're super busy at the moment though with lots of applicants. We shall see!

For anyone who has already gone through stage 3 or knows the stage 3 process, is there no longer a group stage?

Also, I don't remember if I gave them my CV up to this stage but do they base their interview on CV's (if they have them!) or is it starting from no knowledge of me whatsoever?! :p

If you didn't upload a CV I suggest you take one with you. All the information you need about the day will be on the email they sent you.

Hello, I'm going to the stage 2 assessment centre day on 28th June and just wondered if anyone else is and would like to meet? I'll be travelling down from York the day before and could do with calming my nerves!

JakeH 29th June 2017 11:33

Hello all,

I have my Stage 3 test next week and wondered if anyone that has attended one recently has any last minute advice?

Specific areas to revise for the interview, tasks to practice for the final Euro Control test etc?

Thanks in advance! :ok:

Just Booked onto Stage 2 Assessment Day!

Hey guys!

This thread has been super helpful so far! I got the email to book onto an assessment day this morning!

I've booked onto the 17th August!

Anyone else looking at that one? I'm travelling from Devon so have booked a hotel for the night before!

Other than reading all the information, are there any tips to help pass the other assessments? Read a lot about 'cubes'...is there any where these can be practiced?!

Thank you in advance!

Because there's no way it happens that quick! I'm still waiting for a date for my medical, hopefully sooner rather than later. In terms of all of the forms, you fill them all in and either send them off online or via post, but you will need to get a medical in person. If NATS give you permission, you can get it done by another AME that isn't the one NATS pay for in London. I have no idea if you can get it done by a medical examiner in Spain, perhaps worth finding out if there is one certified by the CAA that you could go to to save you travelling back to the UK just for a medical?

Medical needs to be done in the UK, but because there is a huge crisis with AMEs, do not expect to get it booked anytime soon...
If you are flying from Spain, you only need to spend one day here for Stage 3.
Regarding documents, you need to send them by MAIL.

Did anyone hear anything from last week's (or even this week's) stage 3 yet?

I got an email stating that my medical forms had been processed and that I would be contacted again for a medical, but without any actual confirmation that I have (or haven't) been successful at stage 3!

... trying not to read too much into the medical email without any actual official positive news!

Edit: I was successful! Awaiting medical and a November course date :)

Congrats! Hopefully see you then all going well with the medical.

Did they say November? Last I heard it was tentatively between October and December.

They said 'hopefully' around November time, but no confirmed date (which I guess would still also include October and December).

Have you already been through the medical? Did they arrange it pretty quickly?

I was hoping to sneak onto the course starting in a couple of weeks time but unfortunately didn't make the cut :ugh:

Still waiting on a date for the medical and I passed stage 3 early June, so don't expect to hear anything anytime soon.

Hi everyone, my first post! Passed stage 0, going to be doing stage 1 next. I'm just in Bournemouth so not too far to travel luckily if I need to. Hope everyone else does well!

ns92 19th July 2017 20:56

Just did my stage one and have a bad feeling, how soon can I expect a reply? haha

aspiringatco93 20th July 2017 17:39

Hiya guys!

When did you pass your stage 1? And how long did you have to wait to recieve booklet and get the date for stage 2?

My advice to you is to learn that booklet by rote - there's no way of knowing what info will be asked from it.

To be honest, I doubt you'll find anything online specific enough for practising for these tests, so just keep your brain sharp by doing brain games, try to get a good night's sleep the night before, and read the instructions thoroughly before each test :)

Worked for me!

Thank you for replying and for the advice! I'm driving up, furthest I've ever driven so I'm mainly worried about that haha!

I'm heading up for the June 17th assessment day if anyone else is on that one?!

Medical is a Class 3 Medical Certificate. If you look online, you will get plenty of documentation from CAA regarding it.

Vinny2407 29th July 2017 19:27

Dumbest thing I did this year

After hours of reading this forum and as well doing countless online tests...i decide to click the link in my email and then out of fear i close the browser because i felt i wasnt ready...i didnt even click start i was on the instruction page and closed the browser upon going back to the link they said error you cannot reenter this page as you have already started the test.

Well i hope my mishap brought a smile to your face :)

Good morning guys.
Newbie in this forum

Thanks for all the advice given. I have read the posts for the last few months and they are really helpful.

I applied in 2014 and failed stage 1 and now they told me that they are under policy review, so I cannot reapply until Feb 2018. I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Are the collision avoidance and strip management display tests still being taken?
2. how is the diagrammatical test? does it ask you for the correct output ALWAYS? or does it ask you for the correct input, operator or output?

Thanks in advance and good luck for those ones taking the assessments soon!

Yes I did luckily, just had my first week - still not had my medical.. but neither have quite a few on my course. This isn't normally the case as they prefer you to have clearance before you start, but seems like they've been pretty overwhelmed with new applicants, and some started on the July course after getting their offer only weeks before, which I was quite surprised at. If you're beginning on the next course then that should (hopefully) be enough time to get it sorted.

Hope to see you around the place in a few months!

Not trying to dishearten anyone, however if you fail your medical are you then removed from the course?

I've just had the fantastic news that I've been accepted for ATCO training with NATS. Anyone else out there pencilled in for the January course?

Wow, well I hope I get my medical before November. It would really suck to fail it after you start and get chucked off the course...

All the best anyway!

Depends - there are some things that might require further investigation, though even in this instance I'd exiect training to be suspended pending the outcome.

If it is a fail on something that can't be mitigated then your training contract would be terminated. No point training someone who could never hold a license.

Hi! I can't answer your first question as i haven't got that far myself yet but with regards to your second question.. If i remember, the questions on the diagrammatical test can ask you either for the input, operator or output with increasing difficulty.
Hope everything goes well for you when you can reapply!

Not quite. Training is continued as you don't need a medical to do that but you would be removed from the course it proved to be more serious. It is seen as better to continue training and then be removed than have to find a training slot on a later course if the problem is easily mitigated

Hey Kirsten,

I see you're a fellow Scot! I also read that you've been accepted and are due to start with NATS soon - congratulations! I too have applied and I'm awaiting the email to book my assessment day. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Also, I read in the email that they send you a pack before the assessment for you to study? Whats this like?

Best wishes,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks, the waiting to get a starting date/medical sorted seems to be the longest part of the process. :(

You should receive that email fairly soon. The document is about 30 pages long with various bits of information that you should learn. The motivation test in stage 2 will ask you about anything included in the booklet so learn as much as possible. You will also need to know this booklet for stage 3.

Any other questions feel free to ask, although I can't discuss the tests in much detail. Good luck with your application!

I recently done my stage 2 (and passed). The diagrammatical tests can ask for input, output or process. You have roughly 30s to figure it out. The thing is you have something like 8 lots of 4 questions (2min to do 4 questions). And the operators change on every question. Sometimes it's shapes that affect it, sometimes it's letters. Sometimes it mirrors the shapes, sometimes changes size, or colour.

Hi ns92.

Thanks a lot :)

So if you have passed stage 2 (the first 2 online tests from home are stages 0 & 1), you must have done the divided attention test, dinamic radar test, planning test..., etc.

Did this stage included the collision avoidance test?

Kind Regards
Emilio

Hi Kirsten,

Thanks for getting back to me - much appreciated.

That's excellent that you're through and just waiting on the start date - wishing you the best of luck for your career!

I do have one other question - how long is the assessment day? Is it a full day? Travelling from Scotland, could I fly down and up on the same day or do you reckon it's more of an overnighter?

Appreciate that the finer details can't be disclosed - wouldn't expect you to reveal anything more than what you already have. Thanks again!

Best wishes,
Jonathan

There's 3 stages to the assessment day, you have to pass each one to progress to the next. If you fail the first one for example you could be done by 9am. If you get through to the final test you'll likely be finished by 3 pm.

Where in Scotland are you travelling from? I found it was much cheaper to fly to Gatwick and get the train through. The first time I went down my partner and I stayed a couple nights in Southampton to make the most of it. I would say you would have to stay a night but depends when the latest flight out is.

Advice

Hi,

Only just discovered this thread and I've got my stage 2 next week.

I was just wondering, is the first test a multiple choice or a written answer?

I've googled it and different sites say different things.

Thanks
