Stage 3 Fri 19th Feb

I’ve got my stage 3 interview at 8:15 next Friday at Swanwick centre just wondering if anyone else is going to be there? If we have a team exercise to do it might be good to know a few people beforehand :) good luck to anyone going or has just gone through it :ok:

game

I found this game on-line, whether it is of much help or not I don't know. Anyone who has sat a stage two day recently care to comment??

Air Traffic Controller a Free Online Game from Fupa Games

Lemony

piqla 14th February 2010 09:31

hey,

that game has nothing to do with stage 2. As far as I know stage 2 at NATS is almost the same like at EUROCONTROL (FEAST + some "flash games") and there is no such "radar controlling" or like that.

Stage 2 Advice

No you don’t have anything like that at stage 2 if you’re looking for some revision have a look at flight progress strips, how they are set out, what each part means etc trust me it will be a big help. Also brushing up on mental maths is a must as you need to do many quick calculations. Most of the test is having coloured shapes appear and you have to press the button that corresponds to its shape or colour e.g. a red circle pops up and you have to press red, but then they throw in things like sort triangles as red so if a blue triangle pops up you need to press red etc things like that so finding any game that works your reaction time is useful as you literally have about 1 second to respond. The thing is the test is one of those were you either have the skills to do it or not. Also if you walk out of there thinking you failed don’t worry because apparently everyone does (I felt like I might as well not bother carrying on in the afternoon because I thought I had done so badly in the morning but I got through)

tooomek 14th February 2010 21:49

Just a quick question for those who sat theirs 2nd stage already.

Is passport sufficient form of identification or you still need to provide couple of the others they have listed in the invitation.

It clearly says that you need to bring either passport or two of the other documents, so I'm taking it as the passport is enough, but I just want to make sure :ok:.

Hope you don't mind, cheers.

jking101 15th February 2010 08:14

Yes a passport is best that is all you need. They will take it off you to get a quick photocopy of it while you are doing a test. As you said if you don’t have your passport you will need 2 forms of other identification. Though in my stage 2 one person just had a driving licence and that seemed to be fine too.

Stage 2

There really isn't a lot of specific prep you can do for stage 2. The day is full of various different types of computer test, each one unique, and unless you have practiced the specific tests before (which you can't) I don't think there is a lot you can do in preparation to boost your performance. It really is a matter of either you can do it or you can't!

Although you can't practice the specific tests you will encounter at stage 2 one thing that might be helpful would be just to play lots of general different computer games. If you practice lots of games on websites such as www.addictinggames.com this might help increase how quickly and efficiently you are able to pick up new computer based tasks and challenges - thus helping you to pick up the tasks you have to perform in the tests more efficiently as well.

Here are a couple of games I played before stage 2. None of them are anything like the actual tests, but they might help you develop similar strengths:

Multitask | Armor Games
I Love Traffic | Armor Games
ATC-SIM: a web-based air traffic control simulator
DACHSER Global Player Reloaded

Booking Stage 3?

I got sent dates for stage 3 but can't make any of them! Can I e-mail H.R to get a later date? If not i'm going to have to cancel a holiday at great expence and let family down.

Thanks for all the advice given out over the last months. I will try and repay all the site by giving answers to anything I might know

stage 2 tests

Hi

When are people going for their stage two testing??

I have mine on the 1st March, and thinking it will be good to get to know people before getting there, and having someone to talk to on the breaks.

Lemony

tooomek 15th February 2010 23:17

@lemony, 1st March - that's mine date too :ok:.

tomc8219 16th February 2010 08:05

Stage one! Sorry if this brings the topic off point .......

...... but i've been invited onto stage one in Fareham 31st March. Anyone else going to this?

paperclip810 16th February 2010 15:39

King33,

Yes - email or phone them and they'll sort something out for you. Good luck.

Ally231 16th February 2010 16:28

King 33 -

I had to do this too. I just emailed them to let them know the situation and they told me not to worry and to keep checking the link for new dates. I think they put a little note on your account to say that you're awaiting booking a stage 3 and they won't delete you then.

I was also asked to do this online test. This was a killer test. I did really bad in the calculation test. Did you do the same? What does the next stage invovle? Im pannicing

the calculation test was like
123x3-?= the answer. I had to work out the question marks. It was just too crazy, There were no options given,. I had to work it out within 18 seconds. I deffinately failed it, but they wont tell you until I come to the 1st assessment day. Has anyone been through this?

has anyone got throught after they have done their online tet after the application process?

OnEsTeP 17th February 2010 18:48

Shirt and tie isn't a must. Jeans and jumper etc are fine, smart casual is the dress code.

When I did my stage 1 in October i think it lasted a few hours just, not too long.

The online test doesn't count to your score on the stage 1 test, as far as i can remember it is just to give some feedback on how quickly people can answer the questions, I did terrible on the online test, but managed to pass stage 1 and get right through to passing stage 3 last week.

Don't worry about it, just practice the material they send you, know the text document inside out, watch your time and you'll be fine, if you think you might be runnin short of time on the multiple choice questions, just guess the last 5 or so, better guessing than leaving them blank! :ok:

tomc8219 18th February 2010 13:10

##tips For## Stage One Cubes

For anyone who is considering there stage one..
When preparing for my stage one, being able to rotate a 3-D cube in my mind was something the candidate had to show the ability to do..After weeks of looking at model cubes i made and the various nets with as puzzeled look on my face, i finally cracked a small, simple formula of managing to work out how the cube will look..
Everyone knows that the most simple net of a cube is the basic 'cross shape' (A line of 4 cubes vertical and 3 cubes horizonal.)
sooo when your faced with a slighlty more challanging net, try and re-assemble the more challanging net to more basic one. Doing this is again, simple. In order to create the more basic net, you will essentially need to turn each cube 90 degrees as if you were rolling it around the net until you get it to its new desired (basic) position. With each 'role' of 90 degrees you will obviously have to turn whatever pattern is on that face of the cube 90 degrees. Although that may sound difficult it really isnt..your best bet is to cut out the shape of a complex cube net, draw patterns on each face and try and see what i mean.
Once you have the basic net of a cube..it is SSOOO much easier to mentally rotate it in your head..trust me..
I have just done my stage one successfully with the help of this little formula...When sitting the test, use a scrap piece of paper to draw the new 'basic' net from the more complex net you are provided with...Sure, it will take 30 seconds of your allocated time but 30 seconds is nothing compared to the time you will be looking at each more complex net with a blank look on your face.
If anyone wants to follow this up or for me try and break it down more step by step, private message me and ill see what i can so
Cheers

T250 18th February 2010 19:41

If I remember correctly, scrap paper was only allowed for diagramming at my stage 1 ... :uhoh:

OnEsTeP 18th February 2010 19:50

yep your right...However theres no harm in drawing a few diagrams on the blank areas on your answer sheet..they allowed me to do that!

Secondly, am i right in thinking theres no longer interviews at stage 2? Its simply just computer tests etc?

Hi Lowlevelowl,

I've been waiting for Nats to put new dates on for a wile. Infact I ended up e-mailing them to make sure I wasn't going to miss out cos I couldn't make the available dates.

Do you know anything about the group board game type thing were going to be doing? What sort prep are you doing for the interview? I've just been reading up on Nats and general ATC info at the moment. Any tips would be appreciated.

Good luck for the day

Speak to you soon,

Joel

Has anyone else got their stage one test on thursday 18th marchat fareham?
Also is this disc the best thing to use to practice
www.skytest.com

I have been using it but nobody on here seems to mention it. It did cost me nearly £50 but im hoping it is going to be worth it. They also have a disc for stage 2.
Thanks

I did my stage 3 yesterday (checking my e-mails every second at the moment lol) anyway they did say to us we are not allowed to give out any information about interview questions or the group activity but the prep you say you’re doing already should be fine. :)

lmc87 20th February 2010 11:32

Hi Guys, got my stage 1 on Friday the 12th at Prestwick. Anyone else going?

Just a few quick questions really as most of the questions i've had have been previously covered.

1) In the S/D/T questions, are you given a calculator or are they just basic mental arithmatic questions. I can rattle out the Speed Distance Time | OASC: RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre questions in about 10 seconds dead each now but obviously will put more practice in if i have to do them by hand.

2) Whats the dress code for the stage 1s? anything goes or shall i turn up suited and booted.

Cheers.

whitelighter 20th February 2010 20:00

Maths is mental arithmatic - no calculators.

You need to be able to do speed/distance/time calcs in your head frequently when on station, so its best to start now.

ramzan 20th February 2010 23:16

Speed Time Distance

Hi
can someone help. On the RAF website, it says distance= speed x time
Speed = Distance devide by time and time= distance over speed.
Then the test examples, ive been trying to work them out but these formulas giving different answers all the time. Does anybody know what am i doing worng here?

Pat42 21st February 2010 01:19

Those equations are all correct, if you are getting funny answers then it is due to some error in your working rather than the equations themselves. If you want to post (or PM) the examples you are having trouble with and your working then I'm sure we will be able to help you identify the areas where you are going wrong.

Are you accounting for the fact that your units of measurement might be different in the different quantities you are using? For instance - speed is usually measured in terms of miles per hour, but the times you are using may well be in minutes so you will need to convert them to hours (e.g. 10mins = 1/6 hour, 15mins = 1/4 hour, 12mins = 1/5 hour etc.) before putting the figures into the equations.

I have my 3rd Stage Interview and group exercise on Thursday 25th February at Swanwick.
It's getting close now! Hope it all goes well.
