you are correct its MMAANNROOO. i said 4 off as i find with a good sleep between nights i need only a couple of hours on my rest day and then the day is mine. still more time off then i had in oz.

Come on KL don't twist the facts. The boundary with Iran to the Nth is a big problem with the related QNH, Transition level problems, BUT, and its a very big BUT, Kitty would you knowing the existing problem we have with Transition level differences and the related QNH change problems, try and run 2 aircraft outbound only 1,000 ft apart with one at a non standard level of A110 and then transfer them to Tehran early prior to the sector boundary. I know I wouldn't. Cheers.

The AC climbing out of RAK and the guys desending in from Tehran have always been a very big problem cause of the transition lvl:hmm:

As for Tehran. Ahh, so quick to judge. It wasn't that long ago that we ran them 1000' apart nose-to-noseon different QNH's as the standard procedure, for years...anyway, in retrospect I would do it differently, but that isn't the issue. It was how the investigation was carried out, and my treatment surrounding that. I wasn't fired for having the incident. And someone has mentioned already that the procedures ..... left a little to be desired. It is something for prospectives to consider- your licence is constantly at risk because no matter what the circumstances, an incident is always the controllers fault. It is much easier to hang it on the controller than get RJ to contact Tehran and sort out the procedures. Cause if an investigation blamed the procedures as well as/instead of the controller, that's what they'd have to do. But hey, they are just "middle east moments", right Bentley? Imagine the British (or anywhere, for that matter) SRG/SRO stating "we will look at the procedures in isolation to the incident"!!!! Just comical. Ahhh, you just get used to working with idiots over there (AD).:zzz:

You see KL, procedures between UAE and Iran is not open for discussion because GCAA is barred from discussion at a government level. Iran knows it's a problem(I think/hope/pray), UAE knows it's a problem and until Amenidjidadoosad give those islands back it will remain a :mad: up waiting to happen.

ferris i completly understand that the gov have no agreements between themselves regarding this. but the internal policy from hsbc and other banks who have subsiduaries into other countries is that they can move the debt internally with the right of the reciving branch to then sell the debt to collection agencies. so whilst you are right that the gov autherties have no power in this the banks have found a way around it. in the majority of cases it is only used for large debts but due to the increase in defaulters they are now going after smaller fish as a deterent. ignore it if you like but its just a friendly warning. :)

please fax letter that would be great. you know the work fax number. it would go against all the information given to me on my recent trip to ASA by HR and managers that you were refused full time employment as an atco. if the verbal information given to me contradicts the written info of an offer of full time employment as an atco then i will apologise for besmirching your good name regarding this.:ok:

sorry to disappoint but i can very easily imagine life without atc:p and being self employed. part of the goal for alot of people coming here is to get enough money to go home and start businesses etc.

oman great place to visit with friendly locals and great scenery, not sure about working there though as am just over the boarder. but in general working in the middle east can be great fun. as far as UAE goes lots of traffic, mostly great people to work with but as with any job the odd w:mad: er thrown in, more time off then i was getting in oz and only occasional calls to see if you want o/t (2000 dir per shift) not the daily 2/3 calls we get back home to keep the sectors open. yes there are some very stupid procedures here but to think that it only happens here is unrealistic. as an example, the sector i was on in oz had a requirement to force jets down below fl150 into E airspace. that put them right into the teeth of the para jumping a/c that operated at 14000ft with only traffic given. as with all things if you are cautious and aware of the problems they can be avoided/worked around without too many probs.

as with any job/country there are people that it does not suit and who it does. come and visit oman/uae, wherever, first and then decide. also talk to the guys who are here now. they are the ones with all the current info regarding +/-'s .:ok:

What, in your opinion , is causing all the venom, spite, sniping, backstabbing, bitching, mud slinging etc. Where does it all come from?

Question for guys in Oman:As far as i understand salary is 3000 OR,so how much is this?Not in U$ or Euros,but how much in terms of living costs?Enough to rent an apartment,feed the kids ,have a little fun and spare some cash for "the rainy days" ? Or more than that? What about gratuity scheme and medical insurance?
One more thing,nobody mentioned the traffic .How does it look like,busy and hectic like in AbDab or different than that ? Is assesment of previous competence required for the applicants?

Hi there,

The 3000RO is very good for singles, not so wonderful for marrieds and average for a family with grown kids, like me (4 adults now!!)

The salary covers everything, i.e. you have to pay for everything except a trip home at the end of your tenure. The gratuity is contained in the salary and there is basic government health care included. Every now and then, like once a decade, they throw in half a salary extra when there's a national day or the like.

You can get a nice apartment for about RO400 a month or a nice villa for about 600 RO a month. Just rough figures; you can do a whole lot better or worse!

You can have very heavy traffic at times because of the growth in the Middle Eastern airlines but there's still the odd spot during a day when you can do a bit of navel gazing/dreaming on position. It's not uncommon to have 20 aircraft on a sector frequency and more than 50 IFRs on the screen(three sectors). I think that our maximum daily overflight movements was around 700, but that's a just a vague memory. Haj will increase the volume even more; usually means about a 30% increase in traffic for us. Annual growth is about 14% per year. It can be fun with lousy freq's and some suspect procedures that we have to endure:yuk:

Lots of training going on and more coming.

We have always had a good time here and will do so until the door closes. Always remember to come here with an open mind and have a plan B if necessary.

Well that's been exhausting to read but thanks to those who contriuted positively.

I hear the guy sacked recently in Oman was because he upset a colleague ( for want of a better description !!!! ).....these unseen speed bumps are more dangerous than even "gnomelike" bumps methinks !!!!!! Muscat is VERY nice place to visit but this occurrence is more worrying than even Ferris's issues. Even Ferris knew WHY he had to leave !!!!!....does the guy in Oman ???....does ANYONE know REALLY why he is outta there ???? Surely this has bearing on assurances from Oman recruiters that this won't happen again ????.....:hmm:
