Are the trainees paid as of start of school or once on location?
Is this unionized btw?

le Pingouin 21st May 2012 02:28

You get paid from start of course - fortnightly in arrears. The large majority of us are union members.

Has anyone that performed their full day assessment from March of this year onwards received notification as to whether they have been successful or not?

We are coming up on 3 months since I had my assessment and still nothing.

I phoned ASA and they told me that they had some internal issues to work out which has caused the delay but, that I would find out in two weeks. That was 3 weeks ago...

Just curious if I'm the only one or if we are all playing the waiting game...

cadetkid 22nd May 2012 08:12

I had my assessment late march and references contacted 2 weeks ago. Its all a waiting game now!

relocation expenses

Does ASA pay or help at least with relocation expenses to Melbourne or Brisbane for the Ab initio course?

Conditions of employment | Airservices

Transfer assistance – candidates from other than Melbourne

Airservices will provide limited assistance to interstate applicants while in Melbourne attending the Academy based training. Assistance will generally be limited to a maximum of seven days short term accommodation assistance (room only) and airfare to Melbourne. Further assistance may be considered by Airservices, however, this will be limited to removal of personal items that are considered essential for day to day living in Melbourne. Airservices will not meet the cost of relocating furnishings or vehicles to Melbourne.

stevep64 22nd May 2012 22:15

The accommodation in Melbourne is at the Quest Flemington. We managed to find a rental the first day we started looking. Other than that AsA will pay either airfares for you and your dependents, or fuel for you to drive.

canadiangal75 23rd May 2012 08:44

In general, are people renting furnished places whilst in melbourne for training or just paying for the removalists out of their pocket?

stevep64 24th May 2012 09:48

Has anyone seen the new ad for the job on the Airservices website.

"Be the envy of your friends".

I kid you not.

cadetkid 24th May 2012 09:52

I just tried to have a look at it steve but the website doesnt appear to be working for me?

In other news, this waiting is doing my head in!

stevep64 24th May 2012 10:04

Going by the number of people posting on here that have had their refs contacted recently, they're probably trying to work out where they're going to put you all :ok:

cadetkid 24th May 2012 10:08

Lets hope so! :)

The website started working and I saw the envy of your friends line, thats a good one haha.

Blackgoat 24th May 2012 11:23

Just finished my assessment in Melbourne today, what a long day. Nothing do do but keep my fingers crossed.

I'm going to chat to my referees tomorrow telling them that they maybe contacted in the next 6 weeks. Does anyone know how long these phone reference checks calls go for, and what general kind of questions to expect?

I want to let my referees know what to expect, as a courtesy, since for once they will not be asked technical questions about my career in finance per se.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm gonna give Jenni a call tomorrow to get the latest e.t.a. just to torture myself a bit more...

cadetkid 24th May 2012 11:59

Please report back with what she says, I was going to give her a call myself in the next couple of days however Im not sure where I put her phone number. (Any chance you can p.m me it?)

You want torture? The day Jenni rang me with a job offer, I was out. I got the message late in the afternoon when she'd already knocked off work and had to wait for her call the next day. I found out the next day, just before she called, that my ref had been contacted. :}

Torture

Good luck guys. When I did my ATS training back in Canada, we believed the torture was part of them testing our stress levels. All through the training we'd do exams and sims and sometimes had to wait a bit longer for the results...They'd come in and say that some people failed and then not tell us who for a few days. Next thing you knew, someone didn't show up to class and had moved out of the training institute. Was quite a reality check for us.

24 May batch

Good Luck to all, it was a good experience.:ok:

just wondering how to prepare for the Class 3 medical. GYM? Jogging? Dieting?;)

Cheers

thequestor2000 25th May 2012 10:38

Try some Line Dancing and Yoga.

Won't help you pass a medical but could be a bit of fun.....and get really good at it and you will be the envy of your friends!

initial application and online testing

Quick question which may sound silly. I was curious to hear from someone who"s applied recently. Is it Ok to assume that once you've submitted your application, about 3 weeks later you get invited to do the online testing?

Is the online testing automatic? Or are there some people who don't even get invited to do the online tests?
