Keep in mind guys, even with the numerical questions there are four answers they give you. so if you can even get an answer in your head that you think is right, circle that one.
One of the other kind of questions i remember, was a plane is flying at 25000ft, consumes 1000lbs of fuel/hour, it has a 6 hour flight, flying at 450mph. Remember, they want speed and accuracy. Don't dwell on one question. I quickly flicked through the exam paper and answered the ones I could quickly, then try to tackle the calculations To be honest, I thought some of the time limits she stopped us early. Our examiner, just said, ok you have 15 mins. They don't give you 1 minute warning nor do they tell you the actual start time and end time of the exam. Wish they did, then at least you could keep an eye on the clock yourself. |

Is there anyone who sat Stage 2 on the 18th August? I was there and found out today that I'm through to Stage 3! :)
I need to move my application to NATS' new system, and will then book a Stage 3 date. Anyone have a Stage 3 in September? I think that's the earliest I'll be getting a date. :ok: |
That was quick finding out. I am expecting my S1 results any day now, they seem to be using up the whole 15 days. Just wondering what S2 involved incase i get through. I get the impression from all the posts that you can't prepare?

Best of luck with your results!
In regard to Stage 2, it's probably true - you can't really prepare for it to any great extent. However, practicing basic arithmetic doesn't hurt. Also have a go at playing some reaction speed computer games. Many of the tests involve sorting shapes/colours into different categories based on certain 'rules'. Try this game for a bit of fun: DACHSER Global Player Reloaded Also, see: FEAST test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for further info on the FEAST. By far the best piece of advice I can give is to get proper rest the day before and to then get a decent night's sleep. :) |
Are the cube tests on a computer screen or on paper?
I find it helps if I write on the diagram you see!! |
The cube test is on paper in a booklet, all paper is taken away so you cant draw a diagram down, they were quite clear on that.
|
I think the question was referring to the cube questions at stage 2, but the answer is the same anyway, theres nothing to write with or on at stage 2 its all on screen.
|
How long does stage 2 last?
|
Stage 2 is an 8:15 start and 16:00 finish. This includes an hour for lunch and I believe it is roughly 10 minute breaks between each test.
I have mine booked for 30th September! |
I meant for stage one.
Im glad the cubes are on paper I can do them a lot better on paper. Can turn the page upside down and stuff, just makes me a lot quicker. How is everyone getting on in their revision x |
Although in stage 1 the cubes are on paper, in stage 2 there are plenty more of those little beauties, and you aren't afforded the luxury of paper in that one. Get comfortable with them now as you're going to need to be in the future anyway.

Boo to S2!
Hey deltacat!
Failed S2, found out on my graduation day, the day before I went travelling in the states for a month which put a bit of a downer on things for a while! Aparently it was NATS own tests between break & lunch where I failed, I think it was the arrow and dot one - just got flustered which is frustrating because I have never had problems with that before on online tests! I passed everything else even though my computer crashed in the final exercise!!!! You must have heard news by now, how did you do? Chrisby! |
Found out I failed my S1 today :(
If I email them will I get told what I did badly on or is it a case of tough luck? |
From what ive read on this forum your best chance is to contact them directly by phone
I failed my S1 tests last year and never bothered due to the 'no feedback' rule and AFTERWARDS found this site... now i wish i had rang up and pushed for answers. If i was you i would phone them now! Hope you get your feedback. |
I just found out that i passed my Stage 1. Looks like i didn't do as bad on those cubes as i thought. I am doing Stage 2 on friday. It took them 13 working days to get back to me.
If anyone has any extra Stage 2 advice for me it would be appreciated. All i know is that i can't revise anything (do some maths practice and reaction tests) otherwise good rest. Anything else? Seb |
cremeegg, they were pretty clear on the day i went no feed back would be offered for stage 1.
Worth a try though, ask nicely and you might get a response... |
thecremeegg, Call HR, explain you didn't make it past the first hurdle and inorder to prepare better for next time you need to know your scores. I asked and got them over the phone.

Sorry to hear that. You said you feel the arrow and dots part let you down but in the past you've done well with these online tests. Is that right? If so, can I ask where I can find such tests or games? |
S2!
Ok so I applied last year, got through S1 but marginally failed the computer tests in S2 so didn't get through. I know they've changed the system recently so what is the new S2 like and what can I expect from the day?
Just found out today I'm through S1 so I'd really like to know what the new S2 is like. I've tried finding it on here but doesn't look like anyones gone into too much detail. Last year I only did the old BBC computer style tests and the interview so what are these new tests like? Thanks! xx |
