Don't worry, you won't get used to flying J class. That's just for the interview, the other trips are down the back. They even roped me into flying EasyJet!

The interview is economy flight, the house hunting trip is J class... they would not fly people business class just for an interview..

EuroATC,

You're going back, eh?
Shame, would have liked to meet you (going back myself shortly, not to GVA though, but very close...).
3200.- for a 3 bedroom!? Only in GVA, I'd say!
Health insurance is particulalry expensive in the french speaking part, true. But as for accommodation, look for something in the countryside, and you should be alright. And besides, if you reckon, a lot of money you earn is going for this and that, then come and give it a go where I am right now. You'd earn f... all, and the costs of living are still high!
BTW, Outta Here at Last, shouldn't that read "Ex-Australia"?

I contacted Skyguide earlier this year to ask about any jobs and was told that, being British, I wasn't eligable to apply. Is this because I'm not qualified and they don't train up Brits? Say I'd been at NATS for 5 years, would I be able to apply then? From what they said I got the impression it was Swiss only........

They have taken qualified brits before, if you don't hold an ATC license they won't hire you as an abinitio since they don't seem to have a problem hiring kids of the streets of Switzerland.

Check the above url - that's where I got my initial info. Rumor has it that they're still accepting applications but not sure how true that is.
