Applying for the "experienced controller" bid
I'm an air traffic controller in the US and I just applied for the experienced controller bid thats open to international applicants. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, or section of the forum for this question but I'm looking for some basic information of ATC employment with AirServices Australia, the academy, life in AU, etc. I'm coming up empty handed in my google searches for the kind of info I need in order to convince my wife to let me move us and our 2 kids to the other side of the globe. Also, if there's a better place for me to get this info I'd appreciate somebody filling me in.
Thanks
PS- the basic info I have is I'd be in either Melbourne or Brisbane for academy. I think the bid was for regional towers but I have both tower and en route experience so I dont know if that matters. The other stuff I've heard is that I and my family will likely die at the hands of some spider or snake that lives only to kill people, Abo's will try to rape me, dropbears, I'll be called a **** quite a bit, Aussies are racist (my wife is half black), and "footy" is better than [insert every American sport here]
Thanks

I am not sure what pay / conditions Airservices are offering international applicants. The Learning Academy is in Melbourne for whatever period they determine is necessary to provide you with an adequate conversion course.
The ad is for regional towers, but my feeling is that if there is an over subscription of applicants for the Towers, positions in the centres might be available. My feeling only, not Airservices position I hope you understand.
Regional Towers are seriously the best place to work, but I am biased. Smaller centres, good teams and you just get on with the work. Drink coffee, watch aeroplanes, get paid.
Yes we have snakes, spiders, crocs, jellyfish and more that will try to eat / kill you, but you are at more risk driving to work than from these. I forgot the sharks
The same as everywhere, there are some sections of the community that are less tolerant than is ideal, but that is not something that is a problem in our workplace or generally in the community.
WIth sport, cricket is also better than ( insert any american sport)
All up, if the offer is suitable for you, it is certainly worth thinking about.

"89 steps to heaven" I'll also be applying for the international posts and I'd like to ask (if you or anyone else knows...) whether there are any non-native english speaking ATCOs working for ASA?

I speak American and a little bit of English. Is the ICAO English test something I should do ahead of time or will it be part of the hiring process?
