A question for UK users.
Just arrived from a In/Out flight to MAN.
This has been bugging me for as while and I thought you guys could finally shed some light over the matter:
With Scotland so far to the north and an existing Manchester Area Control Centre - MACC why do I contact a "Scottish" sector (Scottish Area Control Centre - ScACC) right after departure from Manchester.?
I understand this a matter of airspace arrangement but is there a story to this seemingly odd arrangement?
Thanks in advance.
SK

Sorry I've been asleep for about 40 years; Manchester Control Centre? Whatever happened to Preston ATCC?

Ah, Preston Centre aka Barton Hall.
FBIAP, an' all that.
A group of former BH ATCAs (not a misprint) and ATCOs from the 1970s arranged a reunion there a couple of years back, it is now an animal health lab. Inamongst the outbuildings we even found a piece of the old bar.

Skykhan, as has been said they all happily moved to Scotland (wherever that is) apart from the ones who escaped to Canada, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bournemouth,Swanwick and even Iraq. However if the rumours are to be believed their callsign will be changing to London in about 6 years, keeps everyone on their toes.

Minesthechevy - don't forget "What's the score Pete" and "Who needs toes anyway" and "What does your clock say, with pilot response, tick-tock tick-tock"
I fondly remember the lady ATCA's shouting "Firm at Liffey"

I'm sure for your sake SK, they'll speak slowly and say words twice, just so you understand what you should do. They might even avoid using big words if you ask them nicely.
...But, as long as they don't make "SIX" sound like "SEX", I'll be OK...

Now there's one. There used to be a female TC Southwest co-ordinator at LTCC who would pass a release to Farnborough and say 'released out of sex'; I always wondered what she meant.
