Clearance question

Almost certainly been asked before but can't find the thread.

If you are given a height restraint at a certain point i.e. F130 by HAZEL then given a direct to OCK, do you still have to make the level abeam HAZEL (with no ATC clarification).

If I recleared a flight so that it does not go over HAZEL, I would also restate the altitude requirement, provided it is still needed. It is so much simpler to say "altitude restriction cancelled" than to start a side-conversation (additional transmissions).

Who knows what the controller would want in this case, best bet is to ask whether the altitude instruction is still wanted.

Maybe, but the OP was asking about the UK.

I don't think so....it's just that the UK has tried to clarify some slightly ambiguous wording in PANS-ATM.

Para 11.4.2.6.2.5 which says 'Level restrictions issued by ATC in air-ground communications shall be repeated in conjunction with subsequent level clearances in order to remain in effect' is the main point of contention.

PS - I have no doubt that plenty of people will say that a new route is not a level clearance or that it's all perfectly clear in PANS-ATM. But I'm afraid I'm the sort of person who prefers things to be clear and simple whenever possible.....rather than guessing what someone else really meant. When I was controlling the real benefit was that there was far less form-filling to be done!

You can ignore the restriction in the UK but not in Canada.

To the Fat Controller, thank you for your information but why are you so arrogant that you want the thread closed?

A genuine question with subsequent debate...

It just happens to have been discussed in details just a few weeks ago on this forum, it went on for many pages.

Purely because this question is asked at least every 6 months and the debate has been done to death numerous times.

The UK situation is clear and as the OP mentioned HAZEL, I responded with the definitive UK answer.

I am not a grumpy git and even had a couple of Aer Arran pilots laughing this morning in response to "Route TUNSO TALLA for runway 06 at the capital"

I also said "good morning" and "goodbye" to almost all of my customers on 123.775 and 127.275 between 0700 and 1300.

Forgot to add, that at the end of my shift, I also called the guys at EGAA to thank them for their help, "easterlies" in the Belfast TMA are always a bit interesting.

And the fact that it gets asked again and again means that there is still scope to help add to someone's knowledge; if not with an answer, at least the range of opinions.

Even if that doesn't apply to oneself......

Sadly this topic has been vastly exhausted many many times over the years and a very simple search of the ATC Forum gives Level Restrictions which is the last thread that thankfully ran out of steam in January.
