Air traffic control errors escalate in the US

October 14, 2011, 1:30 pmYahoo!
Air traffic control errors and airport security breaches in the United States have risen sharply in the last three years, a new report says.
The Government Accountability report released in America today says errors by controllers handling arrivals and departures within 50 kilometres of an airport have more than doubled, the Associated Press is reporting.
The analysis also claims runway security breaches came close to doubling in the same period.
But the increase has been put down to better reporting of mistakes, the Federal Aviation Administration says in a statement.
The FAA has also introduced a new tracking system that enables easier spotting of planes flying too close together.
