Question EHAM presentation

Hello everybody,

Im doing powerpoint presentation about Schiphol airport so far I've covered some history stuff, runway system, terminals, D-ATIS and some accidents. But as its gonna be presented in our ATC class I'd like to add some more ATC related stuff. Some typical procedures how is the ATC organized there etc. Also I would appreciate some photos. Basically if there is something in your opinion that should not be missed...

Thank you for ideas

I can think of several things which are typical for Schiphol. One procedure is quite special, the converging landing procedure. Simultaneous use of runway 06 and 36R is not uncommon (there a several more converging runway combinations). Only outside UDP heavy traffic is being staggered. For some foreign pilots this comes as a surprise.
Another thing quite special for such a big airport is that VFR traffic is still allowed to use Schiphol, not only as a destination but also to cross overhead the airport over sightseeing the airport and the Amsterdam area. Even touch & go are allowed.

1.
131.350 ATC Operational information:
An addition to ATIS, stating which runway you may expect for Arrival/Departure in combination with your STAR/SID (and timeframe for the inbound/outbound peak)

2.
Many runway intersections have the same letter as the SID from that runway (e.g. RWY 24 only has S intersections and from 24 (almost) all SIDs are XXXXX #S departures, the same with 36L and V for instance)

3.
Regarding ATIS: I can remember something from my RT lessons that Arrival and Departure ATIS have dedicated letters (Arrival A-M, Departure N-Z (might be the other way around, pls correct me if i'm wrong))

Guys, could someone explain me this?

There are physicly two towers at Schiphol airport. From the AIP I've read that during peak hours 2 ATCOs are handling TWR positions and 3 ATCOs are handling GND positions.

How do they divide it? Where are the "boundaries". And positions are in which tower?

Thank you

Some poor features at AMS:

1. Not knowing when you'll get a start.
2. No calling "Ready" when not connected to a tug, no matter how close it is.
3. Not knowing which intersection you'll get.

But some really nice features of AMS ATC:

1. A flexible attitude to Visual & Circling Approaches.
2. "Short Approaches" often available, even in IMC.
3. No national favouritism.
4. No crossing of active runways unless absolutely un-avoidable (Rwy 24-06 "Kaagbaan" is the exception).
5. Superb emergency handling - one frequency from problem to touchdown.
6. Flexible attitude to runway changes.
7. Good monitoring of your vertical profile.
8. All SIDs end at FL60.
9. Clear diction, even with Dutch accent.
10. GSOH!
