Oh, and forget management. I had 35 years in ATC and sat through waves of totally incompetent and unsuitable 'managers' who, mainly, left nothing but a sour taste in the mouths of those whose lives they damaged.
True but.. being a manager after all is also a job. Someone has to do it.
We are all very good at criticising them and how we would do a much better job at it, but we are also very good at saying "it's not worth the hassle" or "I am not management material".
Well.. someone has to do it!! Chances are that, if all the clever and opinionated workers aren't interested in becoming managers, someone less competent will do it!

Not defending management by the way. Just saying that I often don't like what they do, but then again I wouldn't be interested in a million years in doing it myself...

Join NATS to be an ATCO, then see what happens. Very few, if any, of the people I work with have management aspirations becuse we are paid to control planes. That is what we signed up to do. If you want something more I'd suggest a different career path.
