How long does the NATS security clearance take?

I thought when I was told of my starting date that it had all been taken care of. I just got another email for references and it says that any delay in this information can delay the security clearance.

This is based upon hearsay rather than experience, but I understand it can take several months. If NATS have given you a start date you will be allowed to start at the college before it comes through though (but obviously you'll get kicked off pretty pronto if any major issues come up). I wouldn't worry about it too much - I'd be very suprised if there are any major problems that you won't already be aware off.

I don't work for NATS and therefore have no idea what clearance you are having to go through but, if it is a case of just giving references and showing a passport (i.e. CTC) then it can be done very quickly. If you have had to fill out a form that needs to go back to the DVA (i.e. SC or DV) then it can take between 10 weeks and 6 months.

More information is given here:

airmail: It's the DVA vetting he's waiting for.

OP: I've been at college for 6 months now and security checks still underway - don't worry about it! Some people will be done before they start, others not - it's not a problem weither way
