far be it from me to spring to bd's defence, sorry have to admit i'm not always a fan of what you say, but an atco is an atco . he took on the same responsibility as us when he wore a headset, that of keeping the a/c apart. he may not have been working as many as us, but he still had to make sure that the ones he was working didnt bang into each other or us. to say that an atco isnt an atco until they have held a civil licence doesnt play well with me, but you are fully entitled to your opinion, as is bd.
now may i suggest that the thread returns to its suggested title?

I'd suggest a visit before signing anything, FUJ is about 5 to 10 years down the road from Dubai........ which can be a good thing too in my opinion. If you like your diving then loads of opportunities on some great sites up and down the east coast. Not meaning to belittle the place but would make a great place to coast towards retirement........way too many years left at the coalface for me though

Got a decent radar yet?

eastern wiseguy - cost of living is much less than Dubai or Abu Dhabi, meal out at a restaurant for two should be 100AED or less. Housing is rented, not available to be bought as yet. 60,000AED per year should get you a nice 2 bedroom apartment (much larger floor space than the Dubai options)

Best thing is biggest traffic jam takes about 5minutes to clear - and the only reason you had to stop was because the traffic lights went red!!!

kavi / abu - pm sent

great place to live and work

So laid back it is untrue, some great new housing being built.

If you must to to the bright lights, then Dubai is perhaps 1hr away.

Excellent value for money, and nice people, still very basic, and as such relaxing.

Propert is only for rent, to the best of my knowledge, one or two DXB agents carry listing, bet plan is to go to the East Coast, and check out the building, moble numbers displayed.

Not just a retirement home, but also a practical commute to Dubai Airport.

RAK airport is also 1hr away.

Fujairah

Three ATCOs at present all have young families - the UAE is very child friendly and cheap - we may need to start our own creche soon!

Pm me with any specific questions you may have "Left290"

Interested

I am retiring from the FAA in May '09. I have 32 years of air traffic experience, ranging from moderate to busy facilities. I have been an academy instructor, and am currently a supervisor. I'm looking for a new adventure. Give me some details...please.
