Where is Fujairah

Fujairah is in the UAE , aproximately 130 km from Dubai. on the East coast, on Indian ocean.

Hey BD.

If you are an ATCO, what sectors do you do at Swanwick then?
Solitaire on your desktop doesnt count!

I bet you tell everyone in the pub your an ATCO.... in reality your about as much as a current ATCO as Erics Mum.

Fujairah, remember it well, a 3000+ metre runway, ILS, with approach over the sea, get through abut 500 ft on final and you have to land - there is little scope for a go-around as the runway is nicely aligned up a wadi with high hills either side, and an even bigger one at the end.

Very prone to land breezes in the warmer months which produces an off shore very strong wing, try taking off away from the hills with a 20+ KTS tailwind. Tried it once on a non AOC flight, never again!

Rumour that the Sheikh has realised that he's been ripped off over years by a series of highly paid consultants, with no significant scheduled services in the 20+ years that the airport has been in operation (wonder why?) and is now thinking about building a new airport, but not up a wadi!

Best of luck guys, see you again when the new airport is built

Last ticket was in LJAO at WD, then I 'retired' and was an instructor (civil) at Swanwick for AC OCT.

LOL! Touched a nerve? :) Did I say I was current? By profession I'm an ATCO, when you retire you'll still be one.

No I wont.

ImnotanERIC 24th Mar 2009 14:17

If you are not valid you are not a controller. when i retire i will be a pensioner. if either state or nats pension exists by then that is

Last time I went to FUJ the arrivals board showed 3 arrivals and 4 departures for the day and the apron was full of the sort of Russian A/C that you hope you`ll never have to fly on. It is only my opinion from an outsiders point of view but it looks too quiet to be much fun to work at.

I`m with Eric, if you ain`t valid or ain`t controllin you can`t really say that you`re a controller. Of Course if you`re a manager you can say whatever you want as long as you believe it and it makes you feel better.

OMRK 24th Mar 2009 19:50

Just as a friendly warning to all considering applying to Fujairah, do your research before you sign any contracts, quite a few of the western controllers have left Fujairah the past couple of years for other units in the area

Abu 24th Mar 2009 20:26

Whats the monthly salary? terms and conditions?

rumouroid 24th Mar 2009 20:34

BDiONU

In my opinion you're not an ATCO unless you've held a civil validation, which just as I always thought you never have. LJAO just doesn't cut it I'm afraid.

privatesandwiches 24th Mar 2009 21:31

I've just found my LegoLand Driving Licence from when i was about 10. I have never done it since, so surely i must be a LegoLand Formula 1 driver by profession.
My OPs manager hasnt controlled aircraft in years... she doesnt call herself an ATCO, she calls herself a manager.

I think you are clutching at straws with this one BD. But if it helps you sleep at night, you keep calling yourself an ATCO. Just dont do it too loudly when there are real ATCO's in earshot eh?

Its quite clear from my profile, I've never tried to pretend I'm anything other than what I am. So what are military (or even ex-military) controllers, in your opinion of course?

But unless she's a PCG she'll still be an ATCO ;)

LOL! Bless! You and I have never met but I'm certain we'd gain each others respect if we did.

Cheers

New Human Resources Manager has just started at Fujairah so contracts not a problem.

PM me or "approach control" for ATC package details.

Movement figures for 2008 are nearly 100% more than 2007 so no longer a quiet place!
