Latest Update

Latest news from the land of the long white cloud......

Our negotiators met with Aunty Airways this week, they made a very generous offer for settlement (from Aunty's point of view). One ex negotiator was heard to say that it would be a very hard sell to the troops if a deal was done! Never mind Aunty is so out of touch they refused to settle and so our negotiators are between a rock and and a hard place. Don't expect to see a settlement any time soon, as one very old negotiator used to say "its gonna get worse before it gets worse"

One ex negotiator was invited this week to a "How to save Money" summit set up by our CEO. It had a bunch of BBA's and others and was to examine ways of reducing costs in these troubled times........ It took them over 30 minutes to work out what their core business was, this from a bunch of BBA's who consistently tell us "that we don't understand the business".

My only hope is that the CEO reads this blog and wakes up to the bunch of plonkers he has running Aunty into the ground. If not I guess he needs to dust off those full page adds from the war of 95.

Once again I can only say to those thinking about a career here, go elsewhere, you may still be "managed" by plonkers but at least you will earn a decent wage.

Cheers

So not a good time to be looking for a job then?

Hi Rottweiler

I realise this is an ATCO thread. So sorry if this is something you can not answer.

I am thinking of sending my CV to the Technical wing of Airways. Do you still work there? Is it worth my trouble or are they in a bad way too?

Rgds

I think that the coments made here about ATC are probably the same for the technical world of Airways. Having said that I'm not sure how their salaries and working conditions compare to that found overseas. Would suggest you do your homework and do not trust what Aunty Airways says as they have a way of making things sound much better than they really are. They call it promoting the positive aspect of the job and company (translation - lies, lies and more lies).

Homework

Thanks Rottweiler
Yes I understand your comments Often what you are told and what is actualy reality are two very different things. The Technical wing of Airways does seem to have a good reputation internationally and up in the States too. Spoke to one of your techs a few years ago and he said it was not too bad (especially concidering there is only one employer in NZ for the type of work). I will need to talk to some of the guys at the coalface to see how things are going down there.

Serco used to be a good employer but their rates have dropped a lot lately! Just hope Serco never takes you guys over then it will be !

Good luck with the negotiations

For those interested it appears that a deal has be done between Aunty Airways and the negotiators. It will still need to be ratified by the troops. Full details to be confirmed but:

Its for a 3 year term

Pay rises
01/04/09 3% (backdated)
01/10/09 3%
01/04/10 Adjusted CPI + 1%
01/10/10 1%
01/04/11 Adjusted CPI + 1%
01/10/11 1%

Adjusted CPI is from memory is the Consumer Price Index (CPI) X by
1.15 % (supposed to better cover the cost of inflation)

There have been some changes to the core salary steps, some deleted and an additional Step 21 (worth an extra $600)

Leave for those with 10 years + services goes from 28 days to 31.

Other minor changes.

Nothing was sold to achive this

Given the current gloom and doom in the land of the long white cloud its probably as good a deal as we would get without some arm twisting of the industrial type.

Will it solve any of Auntys problems - Hell No.

The Rottweiler

PS. There will be no SIP's payment this year.......................................

contract negotiations

Judging by Airways behaviour towards its valued employees at this current time i would think its more a one legged stool and they have plans on where they would like to store it.

SIP

SIP = Sharing In Performance (a bonus system for all staff)

See my post on 5th May - that was referring to SIP.

contract neg.

I think ACNZ are pushing their luck wanting a 3 years contract with no 'real' cherry on top. I alot of people have given up on ACNZ and are packing bags and having their passports renewed. Unless ACNZ really improve the feeling and the money within the company, i think you'll see more people on the move.

I'm qn Atc and a recent retention allowance for Atc staff has closed the gap. I'm not sure if we are now the same as the fio guys but at least they are not earning the tens of thousands more than us then they were. they do still earn substantially more than other domestic tower controllers.
