ATC shortage again in South Africa - ATNS
ATC in South Africa is like a roller coaster...
Just when ATNS think they have enough ATC's they discover there is a black hole!! The ATC's have disappeared...either to Auz or to the Sandpit.
I know money is an issue but just when they equal the salary gap, they find a few homesick ones returning, just to loose 3 times more when the "other" players offer better salaries.
And this is not going to stop!! Both Johannesburg and Cape Town are losing ATC's at an alarming rate Numerous applications are in and lots of them(ATC's) have future date acceptance on the cards.
Johannesburg are already running up to 3 controllers short on a shift causing havoc due to flow control for inbound aircraft from the out stations
ATC's in these out stations (also running critically short on staff) are on a daily basis taking the brunt(pilot abuse) due to the flow control into JNB
Training new staff will not make any difference....qualified staff are leaving faster than new controllers being trained ATNS...make a plan. Retain your present controllers!!!!!

I feel for the ATCs there....sad thing is, does ATNS know how many ATCs have starting dates in the sandpit in the future....I think not. Why? Fear of victimization....result is ATNS think they are just a tad short staffed - by wait a few months.....big problem!
good luck......

In addition to whats been lost in JS and CT, I believe Durban has also lost about 4 staff. Another two to leave in the new year. They're pretty much running on absolute minimum as it is. There are supposed to be 2 under training at the moment. When they validate I'm sure HR will give themselves a pat on the back on a job well done!!
This is without mentioning the pending relocation to the new King Shaka Airport!

Never mind only the ATC's!!
I ran into a chap in the MOE a couple of days ago who was one of our ATSA's back home in SA.
He is currently working for the new crowd out here as an assistant......and his package as an assistant here is better than what an ATC with 20years exp back in SA is taking home.......
Someone REALLY needs to turn off those lights down there......

One of the best an very capable guys at acc are also leaving, he has got his start date an got like a month left....a little BIRD told me! Interesting times ahead, pics should uplift more fuel, u r gona hold when there are dlays. But come maaandag, all will b sorted.
