As I remember this one.

Said party on ground was told: "BE READY IMMEDIATE".

Then after the line up, gets a clearence for take off in these words: "XXx cleared for take off"

Big jet decides to take his time on the runway as if he was in fact not ready immediate at all.

A good 30 seconds passed, nothing was moving off that runway in a hurry.

Then just after the Jet on final go's around, the jet on ground starts to roll.

Here I sit wondering why it looks like someone who started the thread is leaving out important facts. Trying to lay blame on ATC?

I believe what happened was not brilliant but in view of the fact that both jets had no further problems and no one died etc then that more or less shows that at least more than just ATC was on the BALL as to what to do.

Can anyone explain why we are talking about high speed cancellations and what the CJet should do? Tell BJet 'hold position, cancel take-off' while he's still at the threshold.

No one is applying blame anywhere: these things happen, that's life.

Ajet was given clearance but didn't react; the controller issued a further instruction but the aircraft didn't roll until a conflict was inevitable if a climb straight ahead go around was initiated.

The controller then has the option to instruct Ajet to stop his TO roll: bad idea.

Or tell Cjet to turn right or left to avoid the confliction: good idea.

Problem is resolved and no animals are hurt in the process.

Vespasia,
Very well put. I too witnessed one of said incidents, can't help but wonder if we didn't view the same one from slightly different angles. Part of the problem is when the instruction immediate is used but not executed. A case of "I've got the runway" perhaps?
Real Slim, agreed, always works best when everyone is well briefed and situational awareness being fully utilised.
