Question NADP1 and NADP2

Wonder if an ATC bod could answer/shed some light on this?

Are NADP1 and NADP2 procedures both currently in use at LHR?

Apologies in advance if this is a simple question, but I can't find anything LHR specific on the web.

Tks.

Ask any commercial pilot about these and you get a blank look! I know, I tried it at my airport. Not many controllers know what they are either.

As a controller at LHR, NADP1 NADP2 mean very little to me. I would suggest checking the AIP for noise abatement procedures in use. I don't have it to hand, but if these were enforced they would be published here.

Nadp 1 Nadp 2

NADP 1 is for close in noise abatement. Generally Climb at V2+10 Climb thrust is selected at 1500 AGL and V2+10 is maintained until 3000'AGL, then start acceleration whilst in a slow climb. The flight director generally gives you the guidance you need.

NADP 2 is for distance noise abatement. Climb at V2+10 to 1000'AGL then accelerate to a lesser flap, select climb thrust, continue acceleration until clean and climb in clean configuration.

Different noise profiles aren't something ATC in the UK are aware of. I worked there for over 15 years and had never heard anyone ask for a different profile.

Here in Canada it is common practice to notify ATC if you plan to fly the NADP-1 (formerly VNAP-A) as your groundspeed can be much less than if flying the other (more common) profile. In YYZ we mostly use radar separation on departure and this can become an issue if someone flies a NDAP-1/VNAP-A that you weren't expecting since nearly all jet departures from the same runway will initially follow the same route and a catch-up can result.

Noise profile for B744 at LHR is :- full power until 1000'agl then climb power and clean-up above 4000'.
Airfield info (Jeppesens) should detail any preferred NADP for LHR, should any exist. The above is a company procedure.

From my days at the Gatwick NMU many years ago. It's a company procedure. Imagine the kick back if something went wrong whilst an aircraft was being operated in such a way as to compromise the performance close to the ground due to an ATC instruction. Much easier to say this is the noise limit, adhere to it.
