For the first poster, NATS towers aren't always too keen to allow visitors unless they are already in the recruitment process, but still worth giving them a try. Otherwise try the non NATS towers.
For those going through the recruitment process and wanting a visit before stage 3, then it's quite easy to sort out. Either speak to HR for some contact numbers or have a look in the AIP (you can search on line for this under CAA documents) for your chosen airfield and you'll find the number for ATC. I'd recommend two if you can to get a broader picture and a better idea of what goes on.
Good luck!

What qualities do you think a good ATCO should have? Write these down and chances are they will be what HR are looking for.
You cannot second guess the personality questionaire tho.
If you really want the job, don't be 'scared' of failing the application process. Getting onto the college is the first of many hurdles; if you don't try, you will never know

Hi Ross,
Give operations a call, or better still, just call the tower, I never had a problem getting into any tower in Ireland, a simple phone call does the trick, though they did ask if I was in the recruitment process for the student controller programme.

And if it's Galway they might let you write the invoices for transiting "their" airspace....

But no it hasn't. In fact I talked about it to an atco there and he/she reckons it is justified, they're keeping you seperated, giving you weather and all the rest, they aren't being paid by the state. He/she(the atco who I'm keeping anonymous because it's not my place to name him/her) compares it to Shannon control, how they charge for the atc but in my opinion it is wrong for Galway to do this. I can't say if its illegal because I don't know but there are arguments for and against, like everything, people seem to be getting away with not paying it so wheres the problem? Also, can anybody show me where it says it is illegal? I'm not trying to sound like I'm trying to catch ye out but I want to see it so I can see if it is or isn't illegal. The charge is there, ya, but you're not paying it so is it not a bit hypocritical saying they are breaking the law? Its those who don't pay it, get away with that, and still complain about it that are making problems where there are none.
