'' The Iaa Must Disband Asap ''
This is a statement made by a pilot to an Irish daily newspaper in light of the recent Radar Blackout at Dublin Airport. It's a short , sharp and severe statement but is there any justification in it?

Disbanding the iaa
Normally in this part of the world when organisations disband, factions start up.
we'll end up with the continuity iaa, the real iaa, some disadent iaa members will start their own thing-official iaa, the peoples popular iaa (wont have too many supporters!)
where would it all end?
Which one would i choose?
Jesus, it'll get very complicated. and who'll be in charge of the dumps? John de Chastelin would be hard pressed to sort that one out. Maybe it has already started ..... they're trying to decommission cork!

Damn right. The IAA is self-financing, thus it's role as a regulator is compromised straight away. In terms of ATC, it's self regulating. Not clever. In terms of airlines, its dependedent on their payments to it. That's hardly conducive to effective impartial safety regulation.
