For the LHR controllers

The new fire station at the Eastern end of the airfield (Northern end of M-taxiway), seems to be a hot topic at the moment around certain areas of the airport, in your opinion is its location too close to the 09L holding area, surely there is going to be conflict when 09L is in use for departures and a fire call is received needing a full attendance, would be interested to hear any LHR controllers views on this.......

9L is never used for departures due the Cranfield agreement.

When the southern runway is unable to facilitate departures, the CRANFORD agreement is null and void and 09L can be used as the departure runway.

The last time 09L had a departure was early April when 09R was still u/s due to snow.

Wrong to say it's never used.

I think he means when 27R is used for departures.....the new fire station is in the NE corner of the field.

Even when 27R is used for deps, Taxiway M is clear, as that is the only way into and out of the BA maintenance area.

Indeed, as it stands now AFS will have to swipe ID cards at CP16 everytime the leave the new station, it is being looked at but nothing concrete decided, even heard a rumour of a 3rd station as the CAA are looking to cut the response time of the AFS to 2 mins, just a rumour though!

Maybe checker can squeeze through in the 4x4 , but a Mac11 with 11000 litres of water, they are not as nimble as a 4x4! We shall see......

Sorry sir, you are going to have to empty your fire engine as you are only allowed to bring 100ml of water through....................
