Hey there Big Browna! I was asked for referees on the 6th also, just the nervous wait now to see when they get contacted.

Have your referees heard anything yet?

Room mates wanted

My housemate and I are currently on an Enroute and a Tower course at the Airservices Learning Academy, and we are looking for a third (possibly 4th) housemate to join us here in Melbourne.

If you have a start date around early October then PM me (sorry, females only).

Hi all, I'm new here.

It looks like I'll be taking the NZ tests in the nearish future, I am looking to start the Jan? 2015 training.

I've done the practice/example tests on the Airways site but wouldn't mind boning up on some more example tests if anyone knows of a good source.

Thanks

Hey guys, I received the invitation to do the online testing a few days ago. Literally only just completed it. I'm pretty interested to know how many of you guys went in that initial process.

I'm pretty sure I did well except for the pattern remembering one, does anyone know how it works with feedback? As I thought it would've been pretty instant with the ones with set answers.

I actually wasn't 100% sure if it had submitted correctly, but it looks as thought my application changed to 'online testing complete' which is promising.

Goodluck to everyone else who's applied or is doing the process right now.

Hi Dimensions,

You won't receive any feedback apart from either an email asking you to book a time for a phone interview (if successful), or a thanks for coming, try again in 12 months email if you were unsuccessful. At least you are feeling good after the online testing, I thought I completely stuffed it when I completed the testing a few months ago. But here I am, now at the referee check stage

All the best with your application, this thread has a wealth of information, be sure to use it

Hello All,

new to this forum - advised to get on board by other members.

I have been given an offer to commence en route training at Melbourne on 10th November. Will be scouring this thread to get as much info as possible, but any further info would be great.

Especially any preparation I can do prior to commencement to give myself the best chance at the learning academy.

Cheers

Received offer about a month ago. Bloody long lead in to the course commencement - can't wait. Trying to anticipate what to study up on so I give myself every opportunity. I know the course will be extremely difficult. Absolutely pumped to get a chance.

Lovetorun and others. There is not a lot you can do to prepare. Just be willing to work and study flat out. It will be nothing like any other course you have done before.

You could browse Skybrary (Google will find it). It is a good source of aviation material. The ATC content may give you some insight although not all is applicable to Australia. If you do use it, don't ever say "Skybrary said" to an instructor.

Hey there benjipc. Look forward to meeting you soon. Yeah I received an email stating I would receive a USB 4-6 weeks out. I'll just cool my jets and wait for that info. Certainly didn't want to bombard ASA or HR before I even start.

Fujii, thanks very much for the advice. I will do and will not ever do. Yep, prepared to work and study hard. Family already briefed and have full support.

Application process time frame

Hi guys, my first post.

Firstly thanks to everyone posting here - it does give a pretty comprehensive overview of the whole process and expectations with time frames for different stages of the application.

As others have said - use the information provided as a guide. You should not need any specific information in regards to the testing etc. My approach was to relax, sit in my room alone with a glass of water and wear earplugs - do whatever is most comfortable for you before any sort of testing.
The aim of the game is to be yourself and project that through performing to the best of your ability.

Here is a very basic chronology of my application:

Date applied: 30 April 2014
Date advised of medical assessment information: 29 August 2014.

Good luck to all going through this process, or awaiting your employment offer.

I will look forward to studying and working with all involved.

Regards,

Tim.C

Can anyone shed any light on an approximate timeframe from assessment day to being notified of a successful outcome? I completed my assessment day in late July and was asked for referee details 1 week later. One of my referees was contacted about 3 weeks ago but I haven't heard anything since then.

All attempts at calling Airservices have resulted in getting through to a message service and never getting a call back. The one time I did get through to someone I was told everything would be finalised on Friday (last week). Anyone else have a similar timeline?

Cheers.

My journey through the application process has begun. Do I have what it takes?? Time will tell. I think I will be one of the older applicants as I'm nearly 40 and have had 22 years in avionics maintenance. I know experience doesn't really assist in this application process. See how I go. Will be taking the online test soon. Great forum, keep up the good info.

Medical Costs

Hey guys,

Just wondering, for those who have been offered a position or are currently training, What sort of costs were involved with your medicals?

I have just completed my Tests with the DAME incl. Blood test and ECG and have booked in with the Ophthalmologist and Audiologist.

I ended up paying $198 to the DAME and the $75 CASA Fee and have been advised that the cost of the Eye Tests is around $450 and have not had a price on the Hearing Tests.

Let me know what your experience has been. If you aren't comfortable posting it on the Thread, PM me.

Also, are these costs reimbursed by ASA or am I dreaming?

Cheers guys

$450 for eye test sounds a bit steep...

I pay around the $400 mark for a class 1...not sure if class 3 is similar
