Experienced ATC

Not sure of details (not in the loop), but recent rumour had an oversupply of experienced applications for the Tower so consideration being given to other roles/locations.
Might help to stress experience in other areas, ie Radar control or ENR if Melbourne or Brisbane appeal to you.
Have heard of one experienced ATC going to a centre, which suits his experience.

That's interesting. Seems whenever ASA opens to internationals they get flooded. KVOK it was pretty much all the same except it had to be done in one sitting. And diagrammatical was also included. So lets see. Won't get my hopes up....

Thanks Steve, handy to know.

I have my interview at 7:30am my time tomorrow morning. Have done my best to make sure I am up to speed with ASA and the job itself, as for the 'tell us about a time when'type questions...well I guess I'll just have to see how I go. I have had those sort of interviews before, so hopefully it will be ok.

If there wasnt the high likelihood of being shipped all over the place I would go tower, but with one kiddo about to start high school its just not fair to be relocating a lot.

Wow, the interview was good but nerve wracking!!

Lady on the phone told me I would hear in a week, but then said actually don't worry, I am emailing you an invitation to testing in Sydney now?!! I'm taking that as good, or maybe they just really need to get people through the process quickly at the moment?

Alnina:

If you want to do tower, select it. If you get a tower that you are happy with, there is no pressure to move to another one. Actually, it is quite difficult to move and can take multiple years just to get released...

If you choose enroute, expect to stay there for decades before getting to a tower - if ever.

Rolloffthetop:

I appreciate the advice.

My concern is getting posted to small town, middle of nowheresville. I personally dont mind living regionally, but with kids I really need either family or friends around for support - especially working shifts, and I need to be somewhere where my hubby can also get a job. I really would prefer tower, but if I get posted to say Tamworth, its going to be hard on the rest of the family...that and I look rubbish in a flannie

At this point I am just stoked I have gotten this far and I guess I just have to wait and see how I go at the testing centre, I mean if I balls that up, well its a moot point really!

Thank you

Thanks a lot for the feedback. All the best. I still haven't heard... It's all a bit odd.

Get in touch with HR - they have responded pretty quickly when I have emailed. Sure you could also try calling.

I think Airservices (those bits of it that are not operational) is closed for the break as of last Friday.

Biblical aged ATC

A word to the wise. As of last month more ATC in Sydney tower are over 50 years old than below. Old, wise, capable and generally annoyed.

On the other hand, my group (en-route) of about 22 has nobody over 45.
