Hi guys;

I am a foreign experienced ATCO, not an Aussie, not a Kiwi, new at PPRUNE...

Did my online testing, successfully, last June, and was told to expect an interview during July or August. Trying to find out further details, dates and so on, but no feed back yet...

Trying to be patient but the wait is killing me...
Cheers!

Any news

Hi guys,

was wondering if anyone who did the assessment centre on the 24th June has heard anything?

I know they mentioned it will take a minimum of two weeks but has anyone's referee's been called?

Starting to doubt I got in... just kind of wish I knew already

Hi Vira,

Did you have the assessment in Melbourne as well?

They will advise the outcome of the assessment by the end of this week. Airservices said they will contact the referees AFTER they notify you with the result of your assessment.

Tomorrow or Friday we should hear something.

Pm me if you have any news.

Good luck.

Hi Vira,

Did you have your assessment in Melbourne as well?

Airservices advised that they will contact us by end of this week and notify the outcome of the assessment day.

For the successful candidates, only then their referees will be contacted.

We are in for a stressful next 48 hours.

Good luck. Let me know if you hear anything.

Ruth you make a good point.

Tower and Enroute are almost completely different jobs. The only thing they really have in common is separation responsibilities. Whilst the basic skill set required is the same, type of 'thinking' required can be very different.

I too also recommend anyone attending the assessment centre try and organise a visit to a Center or at least a Tower. Contact via Asa website, and keep hassling if they forget you...a lot of trainees have very little understanding of what ATC actually is when they start, and a lot don't realise exactly what they are getting themselves in to...

Offered. Advice anyone?

Hey to those who have kind of been following from the International World of ATC. I received an email this morning advising that I have been offered a position at Sydney tower and to schedule an phone call with HR (as I have plenty of questions). I am thankful for all your input in helping me. I have the usual concerns with moving abroad. Questions I will have with HR deal with pay, relocation costs, the medical certification, and immigration. If anyone has things I should ask or think about, please feel free to suggest them.

Just some info about me .. I started my career at Long Beach tower, then went to JFK tower in NYC, and now at San Francisco tower. As of now, my biggest fear is the metric system but I am sure I can figure it out quickly. LOL.

Brisbane enroute course 88

Hi All,

Just got moved to the brisbane enroute course 88 starting 8th of October. Just wanted to see if anyone else is on this course? I was suppose to be on the Melbourne course starting 18th Aug but was notified that they were changing/restructuring the courses and was lucky enough to be able to stay in Brissy. Anyone else have their courses changed or moved?

Technically neither

It is always advisable to get your ARN first though... it is a simple form and CASA will get it back to you generally within a week or two..

If you complete your medical without an ARN the DAME will hold it until you receive it. Once received from casa just inform the DAME and they will forward the paperwork on.

BTW the link for the ARN application is:

http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dl...e=form1162.pdf

I would advise faxing it through CLARC on 1300 737 187 once completed and follow up with a phone call about a week later (unfortunately CASA tend to loose paperwork so you need to stay on top of it) 1300 737 032 or just call 131757 and ask to speak to CLARC.

Its a good idea to get the appointment now. Even if the medical is not booked up it can still take a substantial amount of time as it goes through to CASA medical. Unfortunately I have been around a lot of people in the industry who have been delayed due to the time it takes to process medicals licences and ASIC's.

Have you already applied for your ASIC? have they asked you to? as that is the slowest one of the bunch.

As someone who already was controlling in Australia, and had a Doctor give me appointments quite quickly, it still took CASA 5 months to issue my medical.

I understand now why they are seen universally as muppets by everyone in the industry.

Paperwork lost. Check.
Wouldnt take copies of originals. Check.
Had to get medical redone because of it. Check.

My advice to all undergoing the recruitment process, once you have done your interview and told to do your second batch of testing you more or less have a job, so just go and start your medical and ARN process then, you will have it in time (hopefully) to not delay any course dates.

do the questions for the first OCAT contain a lot of quick questions, or are they more in depth like the SHL prac tests? are they more related to air traffic control? ie time*spped = dist and not commerce-like questions.

Not sure how the recruitment process works for ab initios, I applied for experienced ATC position and for me the process was as follows:

Apply online, submit resume'
Get asked to do online testing
Pass online testing --> do a face to face interview with an ATC line manager, someone from HR and someone from the college (simultaneously)
Get told you passed interview and have to go in and do some more (verification) testing (including spacial awareness, this is supposed to be done in person not at home but due to some technological shortfalls at the place i was supposed to do it, I end up having to do it at home anyway)
Do an interview with the manager and ALM of where they think they are going to send you.
Give you an offer. (or not, still know some buddies who havent gotten one)

Getting the medical isnt cheap. It will probably cost you around 500 bucks all up, ASA will reimburse you though if they decide to employ you.

So for me I was more or less told I would have a job straight after the interview (was told that I interviewed quite well etc) for me this is when I should have started my medical, I would have had it well before my start date, as it was I was still running around trying to get it whilst I was at the college)

I am not sure they afford the same courtesy to ab initios as they did to me (letting me start the college etc before I had my medical)

Melbourne accommodation

Hi all,

I'm a long time reader, but first time poster. Thanks to all for the wealth of information in this thread.

I'm starting on the August 19th Tower course in Melbourne and relocating from Adelaide with my partner.

Can anyone reccommend any cost effective short term accommodation in Melbourne / surrounds? We are looking for somewhere to stay while we hunt for a longer term rental.

Thanks in anticipation,

Michael

Hi I am seeing if anyone who is on a Tower course later in 2013 is interested in swapping to an En route course in Brisbane.

Private message me if interested.

When I did the course, a few of us stayed in Pascoe Vale which is pretty close to the airport.

Talking March 2014 Start Date

Hey guys/gals. Spoke with AirServices last night and it appears I am set for the March 2014 training course in Melbourne with my assignment being Sydney tower. I am very excited at this chance to live life abroad.

I am at the complete mercy of others' advice and the internet to begin planning. I am open to ideas where to live and what have others done. I'd ask specific questions but to be honest, any info helps. Some of you may even address something I never thought of.

As long as all goes well with the visa and medical (it should), I hope to be there soon. Thank you for all your help getting me to this point.

MGB18,
Airservices will put you up at the Quest Flemington for a week when you first get there. I found that was long enough to find a rental house at Kiellor Downs and move in before my course started.
