Abu Dhabi - Dubai Commute
Hello,
I'm thinking about a move to the middle east soon....I don't have the experience for dubai but would have it for abu dhabi either acc or twr/app....I have heard that it is possible to commute from dubai to abu dhabi airport or the acc centre in about 50mins...Are both co-located? I'd be livin in Dubai for personal reasons.....I hear a few do it already?

u will need to wake up early in the morning,
one of my relatives lives in Ajman (very close to Dubai) ... and he wakes up at 5 and start preparing for his work in Dubai,
i went once with him .... although we left the house at 6 am , the traffic was high
btw .... some roads in dubai, u need to pay money if u want to go throw them, but not many

Cheers people....nothin at all wrong with the american V8's!!!!! There's also nothin wrong with a nice A5 or similar.....looks like if I'm doin that drive I'll have to wear some extra padding!!!!! 
I'll give it a test run in a few weeks and provided I get to there and back alive, I'll order up a nice set of wheels....

U can pick up a nice 540 or 740 in Sharjah, Japanese import - has the advantage of never having beeen driven by an Emirati - with sub 60000km on the clock for less than 15 grand US. It will have no problem doing MOE to AUH in under an hour - with a bit more class than a Yank Tank too. Not too bad on fuel either

As you said everyone has his/her own personal reasons to chose were to live etc etc....
But, just a small suggestion, (my 2c) living in Dubai & around it is good, but I'd recommend property location from Dubai Marina 'South-West BOUND' ONLY.....
Having said this, to avoid the Northern-Eastern part of Emirates Road, & or Al Garhoud Bridge or Deira side.....for LONGGGGGGGGGG Traffic Queuesss.....
But of course you have your personal reasons & budgets....

Jolly, why not save all the hassle/time/energy of commuting? Just come work in DXB. No commute, plus we get paid more. Which would leave you plenty of $ to pick out a nice Corvette, Cadillac or 300C for your cruising pleasure.

Sorry to digress before but the intention was not necessarily to turn towards lifestyle choices - (hope you have a nice chestwig to go with that 'vette, verci!) more to do with reliability and practicality. Personally, I wouldn't feel safe without at least 2 tons of high grade steel and as many airbags as possible wrapped around me for any drive on the SZR - let alone commuting Dubai - Abu Dhabi. Wouldn't fancy it myself but each to his own.

I say tell your "personal reason" that she has to move to Abu Dhabi. A much nicer place to live than Dubai.
My vote is that you buy anything Japanese. If you can afford it a Lexus or an Infiniti, if not a Nissan, Toyota or Honda. They are cheap to fix, they are amazingly reliable, they have decent airconditioning (Unlike most european cars including the Toureg), they actually can go around corners without killing someone (unlike the Chryslers and Dodges) and they keep their resale value better than anything else in the Gulf (unlike all cars mentioned but especially the Yank tanks).

Wouldn't fancy having the S2000 in a scrap with a 3 ton Landcruiser driven by a national! Nor any of the other little Japanese cars mentioned. Fine around town but for a daily commute down the SZR, I woudn't even consider anything smaller than a Pajero / Prado (and don't really want one of them either).

ANSA...Me "personal reason" is staying stump!!! Maybe I should buy her the nice car to entice it to Abu Dhabi...ahemmmm...scratch that....I'll just go ahead any build me own tank...sounds like if I want to get from one end of the SZH to the other without me nerves shattered to bits I'll need somethin used to crawl over land mines!!!! Just what have I left meself in for......How are helicopters these days.....

With the exception of Jebel Hafeet and the Masafi-Dibba road, why would a car need cornering ability in the UAE?
You need something solid, quick in a straight line, good all round visibilty (to see them coming) and a really loud horn!
The new Lumina SS would get my vote....or something German if I could afford it!

Could be a good, cheap second hand Audi or two coming out of the UAE ACC this year.
When we talk about low car prices, we are mainly referring to second hand cars that are in very good condition and are be sold simply because the expat is going home and it is not worthwhile to bring it with them. You can often find nice cars way under their Western value because they MUST be sold soon.
Note: Not recommended that you buy a used car from someone who's middle name is Al.
