New Zealand Contract rounds
What's happening in NZ at the moment, does it look like Airways is going to screw everyone over again??? CPI for another few years???

Recruitment and retention are Airways big issues this round.
Recruitment: Continue to charge ab-initios for the privilage of the training, no pay until rated and no job guarantee, Yep, thats going to get them knocking on the door....NOT!
Retention: CPI plus 0.15% is really going to encourage the troops to turn down the contracts on offer overseas isn't it. NOT!

Time to cough-up !!
Not paying trainees is riduculous.
With the shortage of controllers around the world, especially the ME, the retention package has to be significant.
With VBS now in place with its 3 year waiting period before being eligible for promotion, it is no longer attractive for kiwis to go home.
There are plenty of other places that recognise experience, and are more than happy to pay what its worth.

To be honest I'm not sure about the specifics of VBS with respect to your comments about the 3yr no promotion.
What I do know however is that at least it has provided a 'fair and transparent' system of promoting staff unlike the past where if a manager thought your face didn't fit then you'd never get a chance. Sure, it aint perfect but it's a start. Many of the rosters don't actually have a VBS waiting list (Bay and Ohakea) and it's possible to get appointed directly to those rosters, as some of the new hires have done. Wellington Approach is also not well placed either although several trainees start soon but in the meantime they're having to reduce coverage (no night shifts and dropping a shift during the day) all because one guy is soon to leave for Oman. If you are thinking about returning then it'll be possible to do so straight to the above sectors without having to do the Invercargill or Dunedin penance. I also suggest that you would be well placed to negotiate the salary band that you'd be appointed on as by the end of 2007 I suggest Airways will have lost over 10% of their experienced ATC's to Oz and the Middle East and they like every other provider needs bums on seats!!

have also heard that ANZ have been to ME to recruit expats from there or even ex NZ Staff to get back home?
So wat r they looking for? or what r they offering? & for what positions??

I understand that there has been a bit of interest from the ME and Europe following the visits by Mr Personality and Miss Long legs but time will tell as to whether anyone takes up the generous offer.

I'll be keen to see if any turn up there from Mr Personality and Miss Long Legs' trip (I like it by the way very fitting!) In my experience controllers like to dabble and see what's on offer around the globe. A small percentage actually follow through. I do not think the current offerings from Airways will entice too many. Maybe some, for a 2 year holiday in the South Pacific, but not long term contenders. I'd like to work in Rarotonga, but the money's not good enough....
