CV is right, ICAO level 4 is the minimum to hold a rating, NATS require their staff to attain level 5 as a minimum.
Let's face it, you want to work in the UK, least you can do is perfect the language.
Pretty sure your countrymen demand near perfect French despite the requirement for all controlling to be done in English (unless you are Air France of course)

whitelighter, or swiss Indeed, I agree, actually I think ICAO 4 is not enough to be honest. Well, my countrymen don't speak french. Some of us do, but it's the consequence of hard work

initial online test
Hey guys, could anyone help me?
I've applied to NATS a couple of weeks ago, still waiting for the reply, could anyone explain how is the initial online test before stage 1?
Thanks in advance and good luck

Whitelighter,
I find absolutely normal that NATS asks a very good level of English. Its a very important think especially when you are responsible for "people life".
I just try to know If NATS is a bit flexible or not regarding English at the time of selection. Maybe NATS can judge someone able to undertake the training even if his English is not perfect. Then this people will have at least one years to achieve a ICAO level 5.....
I reiterate my request: Does someone have the NATS documents (Test material and NATS_Practice_Leaflet2)
Thank you

If you think getting into the job is hard, wait till you start training. And I'm not saying that as an old fart. I never studied this hard when I was doing my degree...

kimmikins. Good luck!
- I am however, exceedingly jealous as I haven't heard anything yet, (which I appreciate isn't a no either). Has anyone else heard back from nats??

I submitted my application on the day it re-opened, something like the 22nd July? I think they're incredibly swamped with applications, and the old adage of "no new is good news" probably applies.

Well, it's not a personality questionnaire like I thought it'd be! Only takes 10mins tops, including the practice test. It's one of the tests that used to be on the Day One assessment. I won't spoilt it, in case there are different ones for each applicant.
I hope you all get your tests soon, I'm intrigued to see how you all found it, and which ones you had!

Kimmikins - if it was the basic checking test, then nothing has changed - NATS used to tell you that's what the first online test is on their FAQ, and also give you examples on the PDFs they linked to.
Those links seem to have disappeared in the new NATS website, so I won't explain what the basic checking tests are, but there are details back in the rest of this 400 page thread

Ah, I never saw where they listed that as being the first online test. When I was looking around the careers section of the site, this was never on there! As it's been removed, along with all the previous downloads, I don't want to be at risk of sending people down the garden path. But yes, for me it was the Checking test.

No Test Document Material or NATS Practice Leaflet. Please help?
Hello all. Have been a frequent visitor to this rather wonderful forum for some time now but I have a dilemma that I'm hoping somebody can help me with. So I registered
I received my invite to Stage 1 of the selection tests for the Trainee Air Traffic Controller today (I've been waiting since 2010!). Am booked in for the tests on Friday 31st Aug 2012 and am looking to start preparation now. The problem is, however, that the resources that I need to practice with and study are dead links. I cannot access either the 'Test Document Material' or the 'NATS Practice Leaflet'. When clicked, the hyperlinks simply take me to the NATS website and display a rather disheartening 'Page Not Found'.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Can anyone advise me where I might be able to find these essential documents?
I've called NATS to let them know but, understandably, nobody is home at this time of day and I'd rather not be waiting until after the bank holiday weekend. That's valuable practice time!
Thanks so much in anticipation.

Aye, I've received mine (after about 18 months of waiting). None of the links to the support material are working though. Did you manage to get the documents? I still have mine from 2 years ago but I'm pretty sure some info will be outdated by now!
Edit: Tuesday 11/09 @ 10:45am - all set.
Going to email HR now and see what the crack is about the links to the files.

Did you ever receive a response from HR regarding the missing material?
I've been trawling through the back pages of this thread, and it's freaking me out a little bit! So, from what I've read;
I've been trawling through the back pages of this thread, and it's freaking me out a little bit! So, from what I've read;
- S1 still has the diagramming, spatial reasoning and the materials test
- What is the operations test? Not sure this was in the last time I went through the stages
- Definitely learn Speed, Distance, Time calculations (or dust off the cobwebs for the brain, in my case)
- Learn some distances for airports, or get a little grip on European Geography?
