callsign changes

Recently BMed have changed their previously numerical and representative call signs to alphanumeric callsigns, not apparently related to the Flight Number.

At the same time DLH have changed their alphanumeric callsigns (which, so far as I could see) bore no direct relation to the Flight Number back to the old flight number: e.g. LH4744 now as opposed to LH7CP.

There must be some rationale behind these changes, but they seem apparently to be going in completely different directions.

Any ideas why such changes should be made?
