Airspace Changes - 16 March

I have just started the task of updating my Reporting Points site with the long list of changes for 16 March.

We lose a few "famous" points and gain 41 new ones. To see the full list, look under Recent Changes and then 16 March. Anyone "in the know" about the naming of any of the new ones? Yes, I know they are supposedly computer generated, but: BERUL, BIGNO, BUMUX, DOLUR, UNBIG, to name a few, perhaps suggest a little human intervention!

Time to spill the beans if you know......

Nick

DAP do the naming from a list of available 5 letter groupings issued by ICAO

Just found out there'll also be a change to the London City zone one month later, believed to be an all round 1nm extra.
TDM or AlanM care to comment?

LCY info, including a map, here.

Just the addition of a small CTA shelf.

Out to the east the extra 1.5nm "shelf" from 1500ft will be helpful for the SID's of 10 and ILS to 28.

However, we have to have LCY traffic at 2000ft downwind on 10, and as there is likely to be unknown traffic there at 1500ft (assumed) then I think we will get TCAS climbs into LHR traffic descending to 3000ft on top.

TDM over to you

Talking to one of the office guys this morning:-
He had a dog called Becky that died [sadly]....as you know all points have to be 5 letters/2 syllables.....couldn't get BECKY...nearest available was BEKSA; next point was MEDOG and then DIDPU.
[route BEKSA MEDOG DIDPU] last point refused and ended up with LIPGO.
Other route suggestions such as UPYOR BOTOM also rejected.
Nearly got BIGPU....that was censored to UNBIG, I think.

So long as we haven't lost DIKAS - so nice to hear a lush lady London controller saying to a doughnut laden American 'cleared to DIKAS' - always raises a titter.

I try my bit by asking to 'Go Down'

Breaks up the monotony

No, jav, we haven't lost DIKAS, it's still there.

S'all gone a bit Pete Tong for the Severn CTA, won't be functioning till at least 11th May, so we'll have a right pig's ear of old and new procedures for a while. We might end up whispering sweet nothings to S23 a bit more than usual during the next few months. Oh what fun we'll have.
