brain fade's dream

Well bf my man, seems you wishes have come true, not only are the met warnings to disappear from our ATIS, giving us less work and you less earache, but the change in leadership at the Inspectorate for the Campaign Against ATCO's has determined that we can also stop giving the threshold elevation over the r/t when you are on final approach. But listen out, cos it's going on the ATIS instead (just as soon as we can get the software update sorted).

Hope your ears (and remaining brain cells) can put up with it mate.

Wow! The power of Pprune. Now if we could just harness this energy into getting Scottish to stop reading the squawk when they tell us to ident...... !

Wow! The power of an Inspector. I always thought we were supposed to do things in accordance with international and national standards and procedures. If things are odd further North I guess it must be because they've got a different Inspector up in Scottish.

We tried to argue our case with the last head of our region's Inspectorate, but even though we showed that one of his colleagues north of the wall allowed some of the units up there to get away with putting threshold elevation on the ATIS, he wasn't keen on the idea. Thankfully, it seems his successor took a different view.

In this day and age, with many units becoming busier, I don't see the problem with putting thres elev on the ATIS, it cuts down on another bit of r/t, but still enables us to fulfil an obligation to provide all pilots with the relevant info. Less work for us and less annoying superfluous r/t for brain fade and his mates to whinge about. I think that's called a 'win-win' situation.

Respect

If a new broom has stuck their neck out and made a start to much needed changes, I hope you will be there if help and support are ever required.
I know pprune is widely read....and the odd "thanks" may go a long way to support on-going problems, particularly in the massive West/South-West/South areas of expansion.
To resort to less-serious mode [normal] ...do you pass the current magnetic variation?......that is likely to move more frequently than the fairly static threshold elevation?

....OOOOH Yes! (aka nodding Churchill dog). And we tell the drivers when they can descend on the ILS, and to "check gear" on a SRA (even when we know they have a fixed undercarriage??), and to give them pointless traffic info' on VFR stuff miles away etc etc - because as long as we do what the book says we will be immune from prosecution............... allegedly......... ehmmmm.

'Told you so'

Who says moaning on pprune is pointless then, compared to writing letters etc?

Anyway, glad to hear your news and looking forward to my next visit to Brizzol.

Yours smugly

BF

Edit to add- for info only. the 'threshold elevation' ain't on the ATIS up north (GLA/EDI anyway), so if you are basing some sort of arguament with someone on that then don't! It is however marked on virtually every plate!

BF- I was tasked with contacting other units (about 12 months ago) who were using the same met system/ATIS as we do and finding out how they notified you lot about threshold elevation. The guy I spoke to at Edinburgh told me they put it on their ATIS. If what you say is true, then he must've been telling porkies.

Still, less r/t for us.

For absolute completeness. (and if you are awake at this unGodly hour) dial 01313392823 to hear EDI "H".

look ere my dear sheep shaag errrrrrrr Ciderrrrrsluurpin cloooted creeeeem chewiiin lurt gurshin pilot botheerrrer.

Anyway as you'll soon see. my luvver, it ain't on the atis either?

Are you paying fuggin atttention or not Standard. and if not 'why not'.

Brizzol may soon have to join the ranks of 'grown up' airports, you know like BHX: And it will

I went into BHX the other day. I promise you there was not a single extra word. The quiet moments were like Gold. Totally minimal ATC. ATC units everywhere : Just copy BHX

Q. When will EDI wake up?

By the way. WE KNOW WHAT THE ******* FIELD ELEVATION IS

Bloody hell bf can't you sleep at night? Didn't realise I was capable of keeping people awake in the wee hours.

BTW, having worked at Cov a few years ago, I can reveal that the reason it's so quiet at Brum is that they're a miserable shower who don't like talking to anyone, at all, ever!
I'm glad you know what the ******* field elevation is, cos I don't, I'm only interested in the ******* threshold elevation.

Why do you feel the need to write in "wurzel-speak" , Brain Fade, when you spout forth on matters connected with Bristol? If you listen on the RTF next time you talk to us, you're more likely to hear a regional accent from any part of the UK other than the West Country, I'd suggest - or none at all.

Do you expect ATCOs at Cardiff all to sound like Windsor Davis or those at Glasgow to sound like Rab. C Nesbitt, I wonder? Funny old thing, but not all pilots sound like upper-class Nigels on the RTF either, these days. Ah, stereotyping....

If you detect a sense of humour failure, you could be right.

Ah flower, I believe you're referring to the good old Northern Irish 'brass neck'. But would you expect anything else from an Ulsterman?

I could make a joke about holding my own, but I'll leave that for JB.

hmmm, this 'power of pprune' thread has got me thinking.....

what do bf and his mates do that's pointless, a waste of r/t time and "rural" that we could campaign here to stop them doing and make our difficult, stressed-out lives just that bit easier?

Does anyone with any real power in the airlines even venture here anyway?
