Work colleagues outside the Heathrow environment and pilots who frequent London City and Biggin may be devastated to hear that Mary died last Saturday 16th March following a short illness. Mary had been at Thames Radar for some years but was still a young woman and her death - caused by a pulmonary embolism (I'm told) - came as a tremdendous shock to her work colleagues.. .. .God Bless you Mary, you'll be very sadly missed... To everyone else - keep taking an aspirin a day.

Mary, along with all of Thames Radar Controllers have long provided an excellent service to us helo drivers in the London City and Heathrow Zones. Her sheer professionalism and friendly attitude (if you behaved yourself!) were the hallmarks of her character. Mary's voice is no longer with us but she has left us with many fond memories, particularly the day she took charge of the US President's wayward escort helos during a state visit. She will be sadly missed by us all.. .. .Condolences from all at the Met Police Air Support Unit

Just returned off leave and found this. How very sad. Only had the pleasure of meeting her once but spoke to her almost daily over the ether. The lady will be missed.
No doubt many will have thier stories about her but my own particular favourite goes as follows:
Mary. "G-****, leave Lambourne heading 140"
G-*** "Leave Lambourne heading 140, G-****"
Mary "and next time at Lambourne, could you make it a left hand pattern please - like everybody else!!"

Sad news indeed. Sincere condolences to her family and all that knew her well.
I have operated out of Biggin and LCY for a few years and was always very well looked after with true professionalism and good humour.
RIP
