Question Landing 09L at EGLL

Can any of you guys and girls out there at EGLL tell me what the criteria are for switching to westerly landings, ie. landing 09L as opposed to the more usual 27L/R?

We can accept up to a 5 knot tailwind, providing the associated crosswind component is not more than 12 knots and the runway surface is dry. Outside those parameters and we must change. . .. .During the day time we are Westerly preferential because of the departure noise over London etc. At night time, providing we obey the above, the runway is decided on a strict rotation, designed to spread the noise.. .. .The irony is that we tend to land more traffic with a tailwind and so the rate usually drops once we have switched.. .. .

Thanks for that 120.4. . .. .One other thing, what's the reason for the very limited use of 09R for landings?

togs,. .. .There are restrictions that make it difficult to use 09L for departures, which we'd have to do if using 09R for landing.. .. .So on easterlies it's land 09L, depart 09R. . .. .Unlike on the 27's though there are no noise restrictions during the day to stop us landing on the departure runway so we can put the odd T4 arrival on 09R, but that's only with the prior approval of the tower controller.. .. .WF.. . . . [ 07 March 2002, 16:06: Message edited by: Warped Factor ]
