Sounds like your working conditions have been altered; any possibility that the Union can help you junk the stuff?
We're lucky this hasn't been leaked to the Press, that word rhymes with Stress......also...have a word with an Occupational Health specialist; apart from the rise in stress I suspect a risk of Repetitive Strain Injury.

Without being facetious, re the coffee shop "rumour" - have you tried asking EGSS yourself, or getting your Union Reps or Tech Com to enquire on your behalf? I would have thought that, as this is an important issue for EGLL, somebody there would be taking the EFPS development/implementation team to task on this, and many other items.
I know it's the norm to be kept in the dark within NATS, but it might be prudent to remember the old adage "don't ask - don't get". Otherwise, the ol' rumour mill starts grinding away.
The actual asking of the question will hopefully focus the attention of said EFPS team, who may just realise that you're not just going to blindly accept all they say, and if there are concerns about the kit, then they need to be addressed and resolved prior to installation - not after.

Your WM not too keen? Stuff him/her then, take the funds from the GM and go yourselves. (You'll probably have a far better time as well! )
PS - invite your ATSAs along too

Well EFPS works - sort of. Still lots of little snags to get to grips with. GR8 for Air not bad for GMC a bit of a poser for GMP. When (if?) the bugs are sorted we might just move on to a brighter future. The interface with 1960's technology needs fine tuning so we don't get inundated with spurious warning pop ups as is currently the case. Just PLEASE be patient! We are trying our best!!! It works, as this mornings watch should confirm - a few minor interface snags which are being fixed, nothing serious.
The future is here - and working
- aka, the gravy train (apparently!! NOT)

Hi Gang at EGSS... Can I ask a sensible question please? How much work is involved in the "input" by the controller? I was involved in a number of similar systems in my career but all were rejected because they involved extra workload for the controller. Can you still spend as much time looking out of the window as you did using pen and paper?

Yes, touchscreens are the main method of use.
Heathrow Director
Some elements of strip use do require more heads down, but this is balanced by other areas requiring less. Also more thinking time gained in others where previously you reacted to events ie planning arrival route knowing the stands in advance, pushbacks in advance of ac calling.

Cost - who knows, but believed to be more than your guess.
ps. There is another thread running on the NATS forum on this subject.

I hear there was some problem with the NAS/ EFPS which resulted in the details of one aircrafts clearance being transposed to another...interesting!
Any of the EGSS crew care to comment?
Also can any of them tell me any way in which EFPS has made their life easier?
Apart from saving ink, getting rid of the odd grumpy asssistant or less sunglasses' wear

There is an issue with our NAS link not with EFPS itself which is remarkably robust and (so far) pretty unbreakable . It hiccups now and again and some of our data is lost. This will apparently be fixed shortly but although being a pain in the arse we have procedures to deal with it and make sure the correct info is regained, just ups the workload for a bit.

First an apology to the guys in the Ash at the weekend. I'm having to borrow a computer to post as requested...mine crashed..hence the delay. I also left the list of gripes you gave me in Geneva. Doh!
Remember PPRUNE is a RUMOUR network. You don't always get both sides of the story.
There are a large number of STN Controllers who are not finding this system as good as advertised
Keep up the good work guys and girls. It's always a pleasure to exit north knowing we've been well looked after.
Regards
A dumb Yank!
