FISO Licence / Examinations

I've seen your posts on FISO examinations and ADM ratings outwith NATS. Are you keen on taking up an ATCO post? If so, and you aren't bothered about stigma, have you ever considered HIAL? ADM and APP training all paid for, and very good terms and conditions and a pretty damn good Air traffic grouding if you ever wanted to progress elsewhere. Just a thought.

Don't know is Report Clear is intrested in the ATCO post but I certainly am and definatly NOT bothered about stigma, I havent heard about HIAL, are these Highland Island Airport LTD, thats just a guess?!
I'm not going to even apply to NATS as I don't have the A-Levels and good GCSE grades they look for (although I DO have GCSE's.)
I was thinking of writing to the non NATS ATC units and ask them very nicely to sponsor me but I dont hold much hope:-( Someone better sponsor me quick, time is running out, I am 20 years OLD:-(! What chance do you reckon I've got?
I've got the FISO Licence and am now waiting for Mr CAA to come and test me.
ClassGMaster you said "ADM and APP training all paid for at HIAL, whats the entry requirements and do you know anything else about it?
Cheers.

A point to note when applying to HIAL is
although the job can be rewarding the main problem is living on an island(you will probably not get Inverness as a first posting and Wick is almost like an island!)
If you have now got to look at a map to find out where these places are (also try finding Kirkwall,Benbecula and Stornoway) chances are the word culture shock might need to be applied.
Don't get me wrong I am not knocking these places it just that there is alot more to them (or a lot less to them ) than pure ATC.
FiM.

Hiya Land at your discretion.
I noticed that you are awaiting validation as a FISO, can I ask where u are FISO'ing at?
I had a look at HIAL website, it looks pretty good but no details on recruitment unfortunately,
If you find anything out about it, I would appreciate it if you let me know.
THanks,
If u wanan chat more about this leave your email address and I will get back in touch.

If anyone is genuinely interested in HIA, write to John Doig, Manager ATS, Head Office at Inverness Airport.
I don't know if they are actually training anyone at the moment, but if you have the potential, they'll put you through the aptitude tests (same as NATS), and in due course, put you through all the training.
In return, you'll have to agree to going to one of the outposts, as has been mentioned. Island life has it's advantages, but it is important to be able to escape occassionally.
The chances of getting a posting to Inverness are less than winning the Lottery.
I've been there, seen it, done it, got the t- shirt etc, it was nice for a change, but not a career for a younger person - more of a stepping stone.
Drop me a line if you want any more info.
