Altitude reporting LGW

CLimbing on a Clacton 8Mike departure, I chcked in with 120,52(first dep. freq.) and told the controller my callsign and dep. route. The Controller reads back that I was supposed to say "LEVEL PASSING" and "CLEARED LEVEL" on initial contact.. .On the way to destination I spend some time with Jeppesen textbook, that use to have good anwsers to many questions, but found nothing about this "altitude reporting rule".. .Did i miss some basic knowledge, or is it hidden info. in some UK AIP ?

In the London TMA on first call we expect to hear Callsign, Departure Route, Passing level and cleared level. If we dont get a passing level check we have to ask for it so we can verify your mode c. Cant say i know where it is written down though as far as drivers are concerned.?

Note to the readers of this thread:. .. .Someone called Only A Few More Seasons posted here saying that he thought stating cleared altitude was a bit daft, and that he didn't like doing it - he suggested that he might be a bit old-fashioned. He then deleted all his posts on the thread, so I have deleted my response to his later post (nothing dubious here, he made a point an I responded to it, but now his point has gone, my response is irrelevant). Anyhow, here's my original response to his post.. .. .OAFM Seasons,. .. .Not old fashioned, just plain wrong, I'm afraid.. .. .There are lots of level busts on SIDs. More so on step-climb SIDs. Especially where a particular brand of chart is used. Level busts are bl**dy nasty things to have, in the flight deck or on the radar.. .. .Because there are step-climb SIDs, there's a requirement to state the cleared altitude (level in a couple of cases). This will allow the controller to check that you're climbing to the correct altitude. Simple really, and nothing to do with headings. Bear in mind that this is a safety net to catch your mistake before it becomes an incident or worse.. .. .Flare armed,. .. .No, you didn't miss anything. Oh Dear. .Northern Sky - I owe you many apologies, I have flown out of LGW for a lot of years and have always prided myself in knowing what goes on - but.. .. .I have just read the Aerad/Thales (small print) for LGW, and yes - I now have to state the SID passing and cleared level after T/O on first contact. . .. .I am very red faced now! . .. .If I had not been a Pprune subsciber then I would still be CRM nightmare (according to one small boy - only joking) Having said all that - there were no CAA AICs on the matter - when did it all change?. .. .Oh and by the way, I now say two hundred and three hundred etc - yet again no AIC.. .. .Never too old to learn.. .. .O.A.F.M.S
