ASST ATC JOBS
Just wondering if anyone out there has any info regarding Assistant Air Traffic Controller jobs?
Whats their general job description?
Do they work in the tower?
Do you need any qualifications?
Does anyone have any contacts?
Any info greatfully received. Cheers

I would recommend the best place to find out about Assistant jobs is in the personnel department of the relevant unit as they don't appear to be advertised nationally.Occasionally local press advertise them but if you don't live near you won't get the papers.. .Hope this helps.

Hate to be picky, but in the civil world, the job title is Air Traffic Control Assistant, not assistant ATCO. There, thats that sorted .. .As has been suggested, contact the Manager of ATS at each airfield directly. It seems to be rare that such vacancies are even advertised in local papers these days, candidates are often appointed from within the particular airport.. .Many airfields whose atc is not provided by NATS offer their atc assistants the opportunity (after a period of time), to train as atcos, alternatively you can be a career ATCA, either option is an excellent career.. .Although the normal educational qualification requirements are 5 or more O - Levels (or whatever they are these days), a sixth form or college education will not hurt. Other than that, the ability to work under pressure, common sense and aptitude to deal with the unusual are basic requirements, and obviously, a keen interest in aviation.. .Display this in your CV and covering letter and you should stand a reasonable chance of getting in somewhere.. .Follow up your letter with a telephone call, and be persistant without being a pain in the butt. . .Simple isn't it! . .Good Luck.

Thanks for the info.
I have GCSE'S but no further education.
I've been in the aviation industry for 4 years now so hopefully that will count somewhere.
Wish me luck.

Without giving too much away or promising anything - now would possibly be a good time to try and bang your cv off to Manchester as there may be some ATSA posts available soon. Try the Personnel Department with NATS at the airport.
you would face very stiff competition from those already within NATS though, but if you have the talent and the desire then anything is possible.
Best of luck 'cos it aint easy these days.

ATCA, AATC, ATSA take you pick. The RAF call them FOAs now.. .GMANN, I know certain biased parties will no doubt have a go at this approach, but have you tried Serco for a job? I did and got my ATCO licence out of them for free.
