Change to OJTI Payments Agreement?
Just wanted to check if this was happening elsewhere. OJTI payments have just been recieved. 1/3 of what was expected.
General Manager says he can make the payments pro rata ie..if trainee arrives in June then OJTI's will only get paid for 1 months training. Equally, if you traine for only 1 day, you will only get 1 days worth of OJTI Payment...1/54th of the expected quarterly payment.
This is not a rumour. The payslips for the quarter have been checked, and yes, OJTI payments have been reduced to 1/3rd.
Surely the agreement was you got paid the full quarterly payment provided the trainee obtained the required hours???
Anybody know what is going on???

Ichabod why on earth don't you check with your Prospect rep ??? They negotiate your terms and conditions of employment. If your GM is doing his own thing to reduce costs against the national agreement then Prospect need to know. If he is acting correctly then get Prospect to tell the members what is happening. That is what communication is supposed to be all about.
By all means post the results of your query here but this forum is no substitute for using your union properly.

Details have been passed not only to local rep, but also to Union HQ. This was done between a week and 2 weeks ago. So far, not a thing back from either.
Also, some people are not members of a union, so can't go running to them. However, they should still expect whatever agreements they believe themselves to be operating under to be respected.
This thread is simply trying to find out if the same thing is taking place at other units (yeah, NATS forum, I know, but it gets lonely there with no posts for a year!). Trying to find out just how the national agreement is being interpreted. Didn't think it would take this long or be so difficult to find out.
I agree that this forum is not a substitute for accessing the union, BUT it is a good place to obtain information from other units and to potentially warn them of what may be planned for them!!
Like I said, just trying to find out how the agreement should be practiced.
Thanks

How did you become aware that there was a problem 2 weeks ago if the pay cheques only arrived yesterday?
I suspect this is some Manager totally unaware of any agreement that may be in place acting off his own back. He should at the very least be informing the staff of the action well in advance as many people do rely on the quarterly payment. I would suggest you push your rep for an answer and then persuade as many as you can to join Prospect-it sounds as if the general manager is taking advantage.

Yes, that is the clear meaning of the OJTI payment agreement that we looked at today. The only mention of "pro-rata" was to cover the case where the required hours were not achieved. In that case the payment would be related to the percentage of hours actually achieved, and with a minimum of 75%. If you achieve a total of less than 75% of the required hours, there will be no payment.
It sounds like your GM -
a) does not understand the agreement
b) thinks he'll get advancement by saving a few pounds through using his initiative
c) filled in the relevant paperwork incorrectly before sending it off
d) is an idiot
OR
e) all of the above
Suggest you chase Prospect again, and keep chasing them until it is resolved.

Issue resolved at this unit. Payment will be for the full quarter.
Management was informed of error when first raised. As with all things to do with management it takes a while to get the answer!!

In the U.S. the OJTI receives a 10% differential per hour for providing training, which all of you is no where near enough for putting your ticket on the line to train some of the developmentals that we have had.
