Well Ive just spent a long weekend in Bournemouth- it seems like quite a col place, in the summer at least. We viewed a good 12 properties, and in the end decided that if you want a furnished place, Bournecoast (www.bournecoast.co.uk) is the place to go. We are going to rent one of theirs. They seem to be beautifully furnished, in good places, and the price is reasonable. We are going to be paying about 600 GBP a month for a fully furnished 2 bedroom flat. Its lovely.
I also met up with aaaabbbbcccc1111 and H.M.Murdock and we had a good chat!!!
After receiving all the course information I'm starting to get really excited!!! Dont like the idea of wearing "office attire" to the college though! Does that mean shirt and tie or just shirt?

James

Edited to say I have also found out some info about "New Place""

TFB
yep i'm looking at rented accom... seems easiest in the long run
Bournecoast (helen) are great help, i should hopefully have a viewing next week.
but B&B isn't a problem, gives the holiday makers a chance to clear out of the flats before you move in... ya might have a greater choice to0!

When you guys gave your referees emails to HR were they both ex employers?
I've only really worked for one company for 6 years.....
I gave another address of someone who has known me and is in a professional trade (aviation also) but he was sent a employment reference email as well... should this be ok?
i couldn't get hold of HR today... kept going to their answerphone!
ah well
not long now...
still hasn't sunk in and i haven't got ANY details yet!!! aaaaargh!

Well after my weekend in Bournemouth I reckon I could stand to live there. I had a bit of a drive around and went to the airport, it's really easy to get to from Boscombe/Southbourne etc. I was ging to go to Bournecoast but they close on a Saturday - D'oh! Oh well just had to go over the road and have a drink with aaaabbbbcccc1111 and bmb7jiw instead!

I went to a couple of the B&Bs on Westby Rd and as soon as my contracts come through I'm going to book a place in one of them. It's the best option for me because I'm not bringing a gf down with me but I will be up for sharing a place once we're settled.

Finish my job next week then it's a few weeks of flying and it all begins - Mint!

I'd be careful of the 'easy to get there' bit! Although you guys I believe will start at 0815 (anyone there now confirm this, Phantom99?) so the traffic won't be so bad as we had it, there's always the seemingly weekly road traffic accident on the A338 out of Bournemouth that many used to get stuck in!

Funny you should mention that, as from the 5th September there will be road works on the slip road from the A338 (Wessex Way) at the airport junction.

There has been a copy of the info floating around college this week, and basically the slip roads and the bridge above (the one you can use if you are coming from Southbourne/Christchurch direction) are being resurfaced. They will be closed at various times to be posted on signs at the road works, but there is no indication when this will be. The bridge will be one lane only with traffic lights.

I guess you guys don't start at the college until the week after, so we may have some idea of the extra delays it causes by then. If anybody as an A-Z yet, and if you would usually use the A338, the other routes will involve either driving through Pokesdown to Iford then in on the bridge over the A338, or via Kinson/Redhill area through Parley Cross from the north.

What fun. (I think I might cycle LOL)

Yeah, we have to be at the college for 8:15 according to the information I got from the college.

I'm heading down on Wednesday to have a snoop about, but looks like that B&B will become an option and hopefully flat share later.

Does anyone recommend some of the B&Bs?

Craig

Hi Guys.

I managed to find some where to live in a place called New forest motel, up Matchams lane. Its 3 miles from the college and seems perfect location wise. They have lots of 1,2 and 3 bedroomed bungalows. It is ideal for me as it is cheap and as I am bringing down my family it was the best option I could find.
The furniture in the bungalow is not the best( I have gone unfurnished) and the actual decoration is quite poor. But I feel the pros beat the cons. If any one wants to check it out the number is 01425 474374 (ask for John). Apparently a lot of pilots on course use it just for the location. Has any one else ever stayed there I would love to know.

P/s - I am looking forward to the first week, New place looks realy good. It should be a good laugh.

Well the journey seemed pretty easy in theory but then a lot of things seem easy in theory. At least we'll have the weekend after New Place to figure the routes out.

Speaking of New Place if anyone is undecided on which day to come down bmb7jiw and I have already decided to meet in the bar on the sunday evening so the more the merrier

Right basically.....
The first and last days at New Place are induction days for NATs itself. In between that we are doing team building exercises with "Top Team", whoever they are??
The next week the course itself starts. Another induction day on the Monday at Hurn, and then the course itself starts on the Tuesday.
We have flying training in the last two weeks of November, and then we get 2 weeks of paid leave. Thats about it I think that was covered in the info I received on Saturday.
I still havent received my contract though!!!! Who knows when it will come through!!!!

I think the answer to that question is: -

the sooner you arrive the sooner you start!

Won't be there till about 6ish - its a long drive from up here!
(don't drink it all!)

Chris -

Is that a general notice to everybody that you've got a spare room??

if not pm please with details!

I'm personally going to B'mouth on monday to have a look around B&B's in the first instance then see what happens from there!
