A cautionary tale

It's a sad day when you can blame this forum for interfering with your flying progress, but here goes anyway. (I had lots of flying - and hopefully GFT - planned for last week.)

Accident Report:

It all started on a balmy Saturday afternoon on the South Bank when I spotted a mixed bunch of reprobates clutching pints and unable to prevent themselves ogling anything that flew overhead. Much drinking ensued, only FFF had the sense to eat anything (despite much ribbing from GrimReaper), even planned a jolly the next day. [Apologies Bluebeard - have lost contact details.]

Tottered over the Millenium Bridge, found my way back to Bank, saw raised kerb and thought "mustn't trip over that"

Next thing I remember is being in the back of a police car on the way to A&E strangely unable to talk coherently whilst the ociffers in the front decide that I am drunk but not disorderly.

Oops - no front teeth.

D&D call to brother as I cannot face an overnighter in St Thomas's, lots of painkillers  emergency dentist on Sunday, and 6 hours in various dentist chairs last week. No chance of flying due to probably incomprensible RT and rather spiffy drugs.

Conclusions:

- Don't mix drinking and flying
- Cider and Stella don't mix (for long)
- Ensure undercarriage is firmly locked down before attempting ground manoeuvres
- I am probably never going to my bloomin test done.

You have been warned!

I agree - with the benefit of hindsight, I think eating before was the way ahead.

BlokeInanArcher - how are your new gnashers?

Questions is when or can we do it again?

And who will be brave enough to attend?

Currently sporting a pair of temporary comedy sticky-out-gappy-Welsh-style gnashers. (Nothing racist intended - some/most of my best friends are taffs... oops!)

I always thought the old ones were a bit on the big side - now is my chance to redesign :D

Morning chaps

Looks like the alcohol must have affected by ID as well as its been locked for the last couple of weeks. Have no fear, Bluebeard is back in his new guise, cunningly named :p

Hmmm, seem to recall it was a rather splendid affair. Fortunately my autopilot was on as I magically arrived back home in one piece, undercarriage firmly locked in place. V. pleased to learn everyone was as pi**sed as I was, after losing the thread completely during a long and very complex debate about aeros between FFF and Big Red L (during which I managed to pass off a pathetic rendition of aeros using my right hand as a particularly impressive piece of Japanese hand puppetry) I remember staggering off thinking how much more sober than me everyone else was:D

When's the next one???

(edited for poor memory!)

While it will be of no comfort to you, I can confirm that I still have the oil burns on my right leg. Further detail, if required, will not be forthcoming on this forum.

Grim,

Perhaps, for those who are interested, you'd be able to show your burns in a combined viewing with some of your more interesting piercings? I, for one, won't be interested, but I'm sure there are others who would be! ;) :D

I hope it won't clash with the GatBash!! :( :(

There seems to be a distinct lack of PPPs (Private Pilot Ppruners) going to the Gatbash - I hope we can do something about that.

I'd post the link to the thread if I knew how - but have a look in the 'Pprune Bashes' Forum for details.

BlokeinanArcher :- any damage to the kerb? :)

Cider & Stella !!? You are a braver man than me!

Never nice to see a fellow flyer going in, but if you'd dipped your tanks first, you would have realised that flying on that mixture was a tad unwise. ;)

My foolproof method (little G-SXTY only being authorised for day VFR) is to leave at least 30 minutes before sunset. :D:D

You should all be much safer at the Gatbash - the hotel has nice soft carpets, wheelchair ramps, and a swimming pool they won't let you crash-land in if you're too out of balance . . .

Ouch, that sounds particularly unpleasant, Bloke in a PA28 of some sort :( You could always go for a comedy pair as a replacement though - either Ken Dod, or Buggs Bunny? Whadya think? ;)

BRL - another Private Flying Bash (Drinks Only) sounds great, but how about making it in January? Christmas is always really busy, and it would give us something to look forward to after New Year.

(Besides which, I'll be out of the lab, and in thesis-writing mode by then, so will be able to attend. December's Decidedly Dodgy :( )

AB January sounds like a good idea but thats when the great ppl's new years sale bash is on so maybe you can make it to that? :)

Meanwhile, Dec 07 or 21 look like dates for a crimbo bash.

I wasn't gonna confess this, but after I left you guys, it actually took me 2 hours to make the 5 stops from Blackfriars to Liverpool Street.

My tale of woe begins as I get on the train at Blackfriars going in the WRONG direction (circle line). In my incoherent state it took me three or four stops to realise, no problem I thought, I'll just hop over the platform and catch a train headed in the opposite direction! No, bad idea, cause that turned out to be the Jubilee line! Would not have been to much of a problem if I hadn't fallen asleep, and ended up at Canary Wharf! No problem I thought, I'll just hop on the DLR and go to Stratford........hmm, well the DLR took me to Shadwell, and then stopped, not to start again!

I sat and cried in deserted station for ages, no sign of any trains - until I hear the distant rumble, a train arrives, and I, not knowing where the hell it's going jump on, and promptly fall asleep - only to wake up at Bank! Well, at this stage, I just gave up and got a cab to Liverpool street - surprisingly feeling sober now, I popped into Hamilton Hall, for another couple of pints!

What a day - looking forward to the Crimbo bash, where Grim Reaper will be unveiling his latest metal work:cool:
